I suck. Yes, I mixed the names up, it was Bluemouse that I PMed responding to a question about my RP experience, and Alexandra who I replied to about Dark Souls covenants. My bad

Re: Finally Got Up the Guts to Join this Site
So, as long as people seem to still be moderately interested in this thread, let's get serious for a moment. I posted my first character, Caroline, last night, and her most distinguishing feature is that she is blind in both eyes due to childhood cancer. Tatyina responded to my character, and along with fixing the trouble I was having posting her character images (thanks!), she informed me that RPing with such a character might be a tall order for a newcomer to the site, and warned me that Caroline would probably be getting her ass kicked in the ring a lot despite her best efforts. I wanted to get some feedback from the other posters on this site about whether or not she would make an okay character for the AFW league. First, allow me to paraphrase something that I sent to Maxy in PM to explain my intentions in making the character:
It's true that Caroline will probably get steamrolled in most if not all of her matches, I knew and accepted this when I made her character. On the scale from sadist to masochist, I'm more toward the submissive/jobber end of the spectrum (kind of like Wrestleryu, another poster here, but not quite as submissive as him), so the thought of getting beaten down isn't a problem for me. Honestly, the bigger issue for me is the ability to have a good match and RP successfully with others even though my narrative will be more difficult to write, due to the character lacking one of her most important senses. However, I wanted to RP a character with a disability and I think I'm up to the challenge. If it seems necessary, however, maybe I could tweak her original design to only be blind in one eye, since two-thirds of retinoblastoma cases only affect one. She'd still be disabled, just not as much.
I wouldn't worry about the idea of Caroline having a hard time in the league. To Caroline, winning is far less important than taking on the league's challenges and fighting without regret, I said as much in her character bio. If people can accept her condition, and are willing to give her the chance to fight regardless, she will already consider herself successful. That, however, depends on the other contestants of the AFW, and whether or not they are willing to RP against her.
End quote. So, what do you guys think, do you have doubts or concerns about my character? Let me know, I promise my feelings won't be hurt.

Even if she fights without regrets, she might wake up with a few.
I would strongly discourage you from submitting such a potato. It's pretty over the top, and it would be really hard to write good matches with her. There are only so many times you can write "Caroline gets punched in the face until she falls into a coma."

Re: Finally Got Up the Guts to Join this Site
While I respect the decision to play a characrter with a disability, I don't think blindness is the way to go, at least not TOTAL blindness. Not only does it give her a massive handicap, but it puts your opponents in a bad spot. Even my heeliest heel wouldn't beat up a blind girl.
ADD: Also, from a story standpoint, I can't imagine any wrestling organization would be crazy enough to hire a blind person. Equal opportunities are one thing, but...
SECOND ADD: Also, her 14 year old pic makes me want to cry. That doesn't really have anything to do with anything, just getting that off my chest.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Tats, Mouse and acuya. Hilarious implications aside, I just don't think blind is the way to go.
Even jobbers, in theory, have the ability to defend themselves. It's would be very difficult to take a blind opponent seriously, no matter what kind of spin you try to put on her.

I could see it alright as a side character maybe, but if you want to be seriously going for matches with a blind chick... Well, at best, it feels like it'd get quite stale quite fast.

Personally, if you want to go with a disability - and this is just my thought - I'd go with deafness. I actually knew a wrestler in high school who was deaf. He could actually feel the vibrations in the air to 'listen' to the referees calls, and he was pretty good.
