thank you jake. thank you for also suggesting an idea. However, I massively disapprove of your idea.

Maybe it's the way you phrased it, but forcing people to do something they don't want is a complete non-starter. this site is recreational, ie. if you're not enjoying it you won't do it. If you force matches like that you will end up with, at best, uninspired writing, and more likely, nothing at all.

The issue with have is now we have become too lazy as a result of not having a ranking system. We need something to achieve. I have a feeling a good idea is either to apppoint a storyline moderator whose job it is to make storylines and try to turn AFW into a story. The other involves having gdifferent license levels.

You mean like the PPVs we already have? The ones that people dont normally finish.

Summer Splash 14 is going well though. Not perfect but its better than usual.

If anything we should bring this up again when SS is finito. Right now most people are busy with their matches and between PPV's is when this idea would probably have more backing.

You should be aiming to achieve interesting storylines and matches. Putting someone in charge of that and trying to force people together that don't want to be together is just going to result in unhappiness and bad feelings all around. It should be YOUR job to try and think of interesting things for your characters, and to work together with other people to achieve those goals.

Licence levels?

I wouldn't object to stuff that facilitates storyline generation but a DM-style role seems out of place for this (although admittedly, by suggesting that AFW have two competing promotions with separate managers, I was envisaging the managerial characters would take on some of this role, albeit in-character).

(And yeah, totally agree with carrion about timing, if I actually thought the stuff in my first post had a chance of being implemented I would have waited until a more opportune moment. As it happens, I just wanted to write the idea down)

Well rather than having a top 10 you have license levels A through to F. When you join you are given a F class license and you compete in class F, after participating in say 5 matches you can challenge someone from the category above. If you win you advance a level. The process keeps going until you reach C because C,B and A are more prestigious levels there are only a limited number in each category. If someone goes up, someone has to go down sorta thing.

I think that hamish's original idea could be tweaked into SOMETHING.

I've given it some thought but I'm not even ready to really lay out an idea or anything.

And yeah, forcing people isn't going to work. Incentive is what does.

Since it's a decent time to bring it up, I'd just like to say that this site is, obviously, a site made for fun. It's a place for leisure and relaxation and everyone is free to take advantage of what the site has to offer any way they like.

I'd ALSO like to say, that there ARE parts of the site that have a bit more of a serious edge to them. Participation in THAT part of the site is always voluntary, however, signing up for it comes with a certain amount of responsibility and effort that I don't think people realize exists.

The staff put in a lot of time and effort to make that part of the site a far more rewarding experience than what the site offers in general and there are certain expectations that come with it.

I don't think that is too much to ask really and it will generally be the same on any rp site you go to. Actually, a lot of the more successful rp sites require far more responsibility and effort than we probably ever will so in that regard, you're very lucky to have found us ^ ^

On that note, a tier system could also have potential merits but I don't think I'd really make it where ascension is based upon winning or losing a match. There'd be more OOC/ICly criteria that could better help decide how that would work.

That also requires a LOT of thought and probably some testing, however. And also still has the potential for dividing the community which we really try not to do.

I think these are all terrible ideas. The branding thing could be something, but n one is forcing me t RP with anyone, and no one is ranking my characters. Also, I've never relied on the mods, or anyone, to just give me a storyline to RP.
