Abused children don't turn into superman. Also, people don't go down from being hit in the head because it hurts. It really doesn't hurt very much. Pain threshold has little to do with your brain shutting off.

Best advice of this thread: get rid of his backstory and come up with something significantly less... my vocabulary fails me. Less emo.

The biggest noob move is to write up a history that makes them a tortured tough guy action hero loner and to use it to justify making the character superman. That's not really the point of being here.

That being said, whatever turns you on go for it, but I think you'll find that for collaborative role playing's sake people won't play with you if you always get to be the awesome one.

You are the one who posted this thread and it is something a lot of people would not or could not do, so you're already on the right track. That being said, the advice given is given with the hopes that you will improve so that you and the people who you rp with will enjoy the roleplaying experience further and so that you can roleplay with a greater number of individuals.

There are ways to have personae without being too comic book. I've done it in several different ways myself. People are willing to help if you are still willing to ask questions.
