I was just thinking about the PPVs on this site and just had a few questions. Every so often I will pick a finished match and read it completely if I can in one sitting. This is basically so I can see how you veterans or anyone with more experience do things around here.
Anyway i bet there is a FAQ on here to answer my question, but I'll ask them here anyway if that's okay? Are there match themes for PPVs? For example WWE has "Hell in a Cell" and the main event is a "Hell in a Cell" match. There are a few more minor questions, but I'll skip to the main two I have. Is there a "Wrestlemaina" or "Money in the Bank" equivalent PPV.
For those who don't know, a "Money in the Bank" match is essentially a ladder math between 6 people and the goal is to retrieve a briefcase that is suspended above the ring. The winner would then be allowed to face a champion of their choosing whenever they wish.
"Wrestlemaina" is the best of all PPVs and holds the biggest matches. Title matches, rivals, streak breakers, and the occasional "career on the line" matches can be see here.
This should go without saying, but I'm including all brands in this discussion.

Re: Pay-Per Views
1. We generally don't base our PPV's off certain themes. Sometimes there is a match or two based off the location of where the PPV is held at (like this years SS having a few alaska themed matches) but those are just standard gimmick matches given themed names. But there is no "This PPV is for THIS match type/theme" type thing. For fucks sake we only have like 2 PPVs.
2. There is no "Money in the Bank" themed PPV. We ripped off the concept once, we won't do it again.
3. Of the two PPV's, Summer Splash and Avalanche, Avalanche is generally considered the bigger PPV. Summer Splash is more of a fun PPV, allowing for less serious matches, a fun location, and usually headlines with a hentai title match. Avalanche tends to be the more serious PPV. It focuses more on matches with stories to them that have been built up, and has more of a wrestling focus than a hentai or gimmick focus, and you generally have to earn your way onto the card, whereas Summer Splash is a bit more open.
4. Tension, when it gets PPV's anyway, which is rare due to people's interest and availability (Example being the current PPV going smoothly, while the last one failed badly) is never themed or given a general gimmick.
So yeah. There is currently no special themed PPVs or anything like that. Sometimes matches on the PPV have a gimmick relating to the location of where the PPV is, but thats usually rare and more of a Summer Splash thing.
The reason there generally isn't is because, while some of the board likes the ideas, other members of the board don't, and would not appreciate it.
For example, if I've built up a 6 month fued between two characters for a big PPV showdown match, I'd be pretty pissed if I had to shoehorn in some lame ass gimmick involving Penguins and Polar Bears because the PPV took place in Antarctica.

Re: Pay-Per Views
Well thanks for clearing this up for me and how often are PPVs held? I'm assuming SS is held sometime in the summer, but the idea of Avalanche happening multiple times a year sounds wrong. So are there only two a year?
Off topic, but Tai if you remember you helped me out in my video game post some time ago. The game I did dream about was "The Thing".

One of the main reason there isn't more is because many of our members are attending college, and are absent during school time. The PPV's tend to occur around Summer and Winter Break.

Re: Pay-Per Views
We've never done a money in the bank match but we've done the money in the bank briefcase idea several times and I never rule out the possibility of doing it in the future.
Avalanche and Summer Splash are thematic by location, but not every match is themed. I try and make sure a few of them are, though, even if the match type change doesn't change the match up at all. For example, the Hardcore Title fight in this year's PPV was just changed from a Lion's Den cage fight to a Sea Lion's Den cage fight with no other difference to the match than adding a word to the name cause Sea Lions live in that area. Where as, in Switzerland, we had girls dressed up in regional garb and in Atlantic City we had a full on monopoly match with chance cards and everything.
Tension PPVs are usually more thematic to what Tension itself is: mixed wrestling. With the exception of the Tension Vs. Friction PPV, which was themed entirely in that regard.
the format of the board itself does not lend to having monthly PPVs or even bi monthly PPVs. Honestly, biannual PPVs are hard enough to pull off, all things considered. Which is why (along with interest) there aren't as many Tension PPVs.
However, there have been PPVs that have been held outside of the usual schedule, like Tension in Ueno and Omega Hotel. Along with events like the Temple games and Friction World Cup.
