Strategy: Mariko is an average striker, but where she truly thrives is with her grappling, throws and submissions. She also utilizes very sensual actions both to humiliate and demoralize her opponent, as well as to wear them down. Any pin or submission she applies almost always has some sort of sexually suggestive twist to it (as long as the rules of the match allow it). She’s also very quick, which allows her to transition from one hold to the next with little-to-no time wasted. Mariko likes to target limbs or other specific body parts to hinder her opponent's offensive capabilities and/or make it easier for her to attack. Smothers, scissor holds, as well as anything she can think of to target the head and neck are also gradually employed throughout her matches to set up for one of her finishing moves. When going for what she believes to be the winning pin, Mariko tends to go with a sexy and dominant pin, like a facesit or even simply putting her foot on their chest, to make the moment of her victory that much more enjoyable.

Wrist-Clutch Exploder: With one arm wrapped around the top of the opponent's chest and shoulder and the other pulling the foe's wrist between his/her own legs, Mariko hoists them overhead before bringing them crashing down onto their head and neck.

Guillotine Choke: Mariko wraps one arm tightly around the back and under the front of an opponent's neck while also coiling her legs around their waist to apply a body scissor simultaneously.

Schoolgirl Pin: Maybe the simplest signature piece of Mariko's regular arsenal, but also perhaps her favorite. With the opponent flat on his/her back, she sits high astride their chest and neck with her crotch right at their chin and their head framed between her thighs. This domineering and humiliating pin can be difficult to escape from on its own, and it gives Mariko a myriad of transition options. She can easily move from the position into a headscissor, triangle choke, armbar, or even shift forward to sit on her opponent's face.

Take Five: From behind a dazed opponent, Mariko wraps her arm around their neck as if applying a dragon sleeper. Then she twists her body and drops to a knee, while bringing an arm down like a guillotine to drive the opponent's neck and upper back down across her knee.

Last Ride: Starting by placing the opponent’s head between her legs in a standing headscissor, Mariko lifts them up into a sitting position onto her shoulders in a powerbomb position. After giving a teasing kiss or lick to the crotch of her opponent, she grabs them by their pants/tights/etc. and hoists them into the air before slamming them back down to the mat right on their back. This is typically reserved for lighter opponents, or can be used to punish opponents she catches climbing up the ropes before they make it to the top.

Last Ride:

Heaven & Hell: Often preceded by a hurricanrana, Mariko will straddle her opponent's face in a forward facesit, then pull one of their arms straight up and lock her own around it to hyperextend it to apply a mounted variation of an armbar. Once the hold is locked in the trapped victim has little choice but to submit or be smothered out.


Personality: Mariko is both a masochist and a sadist, meaning she gets pleasure out of both receiving pain and dishing it out. Because of this she generally doesn’t care much about winning or losing, and just wants to enjoy each match as much as possible. When in control in her matches she often attempts to humiliate her opponent, either by putting them in some sort of sexy/embarrassing hold, or by striking dominant poses over her victim (something she often does after winning a match). She’s neither a face nor a heel. This means that although she likes to pose for the crowds just for fun, she doesn’t particularly care about what they think of her or about being the “good guy;” and although she’s a bit smug and has an attitude similar to that of a dominatrix when she’s in a match, she won’t make any attempt to break the rules or excessively insult/injure her opponent.

Past/History:
Born and raised in a small town in Japan where wrestling had virtually no presence, Mariko and her brother were part of a vast minority that loved it. They watched it together on TV almost religiously, and even regularly wrestled against each other as they grew up over the years. Initially their fun matches were fairly even. But as they grew older Mariko found herself winning almost every time they wrestled, despite her brother being both bigger and stronger than her. And as she matured she also came to notice how much of a rush she got from dominating an opponent, and practically fell in love with the feeling. Noticing she had a natural talent for wrestling, her brother encouraged her to go find a place where she could make use of it. And so, she did some research and decided her best option seemed to be AFW.

With her brother’s help, Mariko enrolled at the nearest wrestling school and spent the next year training for the “big leagues.” Once she felt prepared, she packed her bags and went on her way. And soon she arrived at her destination with two simple goals in mind: develop her wrestling talent as much as she could, and have as much fun as possible while doing it.

Fun Facts:

- Mariko and Yamato’s parents own a small bakery. Growing up, she and her brother helped around the store when needed, but neither of them ever bothered actually learning to cook, and they're both terrible at it.

- In middle school, the class bully became the first boy to ever confess his love to Mariko. She told him she’d only date him if he could beat her in a wrestling match. He accepted the challenge, and within seconds Mariko had him tapping out to an armbar. But she only let him go after making him beg to be released. It crushed the boy’s heart, but made Mariko popular among the other kids.

- Jazz is by far her favorite kind of music, and sushi is her favorite food. In fact, she even chose to live in her current apartment specifically because of how close it is to a local jazz club she likes.

1. First Day Gym Mayhem - Shortly after arriving to the AFW, Mariko makes her first trip to the gym and spars with Daisuke Takeuchi, and teaches him why it's not wise to underestimate someone just because they're new.

2. vs Clyde Gastin - Mariko puts up a good fight in her in ring debut against one of Tension's top veterans, but ultimately comes up short against the cowboy. LOSS (0-1)

3. vs Blue Thunder Mask - Soon after her highly competitive debut, Mariko makes fairly short work of BTM, earning her first AFW victory. WIN (1-1)

4. Strange Therapy - Mariko meets and befriends Army Rodriguez at the gym, and helps him work on fighting quicker opponents.

5. vs Nanami Shimizu - Mariko heads to Friction for her first crossover match, and picks up a dominant win against the Friction newcomer in a Humiliation Match. WIN (2-1)

6. w/ Yamato Ishii vs Vegas Quartet - Mariko is stunned to find that not only has her brother joined the AFW, but he is her tag team partner for the match! The Ishiis work well in their hard fought tag team debut, but fall short to the Vegas Quartet. LOSS (2-2)

7.  vs Michael Medors (Hentai Match) - In her first Hentai match, Mariko defeats the paladin, earning the right to take him home as her pet for the night. WIN (3-2)

8. Having Fun with the New Pet - After defeating Michael Medors in a POW-style Hentai match, Mariko takes him back to her place for some hot and steamy fun.

9. Breaking the Tension! Episode 6: The Ishii Siblings - Patty O' Malley interviews Mariko and Yamato, and gives them a chance to tell the fans a bit about themselves.

12. Catching Up After the Match - Mariko checks up on her brother after his loss against Abbey Abraxas, then after meeting Abbey, takes her back to Mariko's apartment, where they get very acquainted with each other.

13. Grace, Sorority, Economy - At the gym, Mariko intrudes on a training session between Shinobu Fujiwara and Cassie Elliot, and has some fun teasing Shinobu in the process.

14. vs Shinobu Fujiwara - Not long after meeting Shinobu at the gym, Mariko finds herself against him in an official match, and has some fun toying with him for a while before finally making him submit. WIN (5-2-1)

15. w/ Yamato Ishii vs Fire and Ice - Some foul play from the Fire and Ice duo results in Frost forcing Yamato to tap out. LOSS (5-3-1)

16. w/ Yamato Ishii vs Fire and Ice - In the first round of a tournament to crown the new Tension Tag Team Champions, Mariko and Yamato avenge their recent loss against the Fire and Ice duo, and advance to the next round. WIN (6-3-1)

17. w/ Yamato Ishii vs King's Crew - With some unlikely help from the Brat Pack, Mariko and Yamato pull out a huge upset over Killer King and Kent Quick in the second round of the tag team tournament, earning them one of the spots in the Tag Team Championship match at Showdown. WIN (7-3-1)

18. vs Divine (Facesit War) - What starts as a more sensual wrestling match turns rough very quickly when Yamato is suddenly threatened. Mariko picks up the win, but is then ambushed and assaulted by the rest of the Valkyries after the match. WIN (8-3-1)

19. w/ Yamato Ishii vs United Kingdom Elite (Tag Team Championship match) - In the finals of the tag team tournament, Mariko and Yamato put up a strong fight in their first chance to challenge for championship gold in the AFW, but fall short to the United Kingdom Elite. LOSS (8-4-1)

20. Can't We Be Friends - Mariko is unexpectedly approached by Blaise Cameron and Amy Poford, who try to recruit her to join their side in a war against the Valkyries.

21. vs Ryu Toranami (Multiple KO Match) - In her fist match since her defeat in the Tag Team Tournament, Mariko rebounds with a fun and fairly easy win against Ryu, knocking him out three times to win the match.

22. Her Brother's Keeper - Mariko's worries when she hears Yamato has been called to the arena under suspicious circumstances prove to be warranted, as her brother walks right into a humiliating trap set by the Valkyries as a message to Mariko.

23. Second Time for a First Date - Mariko and Abbey finally get a chance to have a more legitimate first date.

24. vs Killer King - Still livid over Yamato's assault and humiliation at the hands of the Valkyries, Mariko's problems only get worse as she's put in a match with a vengeful Killer King.
