i played up to Emerald (including Snap and Pinball) before losing track of them all and losing interest. grass types were usually a favorite starter, though Rocks were a personal favorite overall

best reason to pick Bulbasaur for a start though was the Elite 4
for one thing, loved to dogpile enemies with Sleep Powder and Leech Seed, since LS stacks with other conditions and that was back in my day when waking up from sleep took up your turn
also, for some reason Lance was TERRIFIED of Grass/Poison types. Every single actual dragon type he had used Reflect or Barrier or some defensive move, to the point where it did nothing at all when there was a grass/poison type out. Venusaur, Victreebell, whatev (believe Tangela was the only pure Grass type back then), it triggered some glitch that made Lance piss his Pance and basically surrender. though he'd stomp the shit out of anyone else if you switched out

Because of how the games worked back then, the AI only took type advantage into account. And barrier was psychic so he'd use it over and over because it's supposed to be "super effective"

Luffy gets it, Venusaur was the best starter, and Kitten apparently Arcanine is a legendary pokemon, http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Arcanine_(PokÃmon) , there is also like the second or third episode of the first season when the man character, forget his name, is in the pokemon center and sees a picture of 4 legendary pokemon, three of them is the legendary birds and one is Arcanine,


Kerflubble is right the AI was kind of stupid, it didn´t make the best choice for the situation, only decided what to do depending on what type of pokemon you used,

Arcanine is a FAKE legendary. He isn't on the same level as the true legendary pokÃmons. Yes, he was called legendary in an anime episode, but in the games he just doesn't has the power level.
