Boston Crabs are the most basic submissions in a match. If you need a unique spin on it, use Colt Cabana's Inverted Boston Crab.

One move that I really love that doesn't get much love on the site is Inverted Figure 4, like the one Revival members do. Looks painful, looks awesome, might have my chars use it in a near future.

Another really good hold is Crossface Chickenwing. Might be because I really like Marty Scurll.

@Caboose Wrath of Gods is kinda meh, but I also really love OWA.

So you´re more a fan of getting bitten, spat in the eyes or headbutted then, Gregar? Ok.^^
Not that you can counter that very good because you basically have to stand still and can´t do much beside shacking your opponent a little bit from left to right if you want to keep pressure on the same spot.

I am also not sure about this but if you have your arms at your side, does that not defeat half of the intend of the hug to put pressure on the hips and back and not just on the back only?

The idea of a bearhug SHOULD be that you're using it towards the end of the match to further weaken/finish off an already hurt opponent. Hard to find the strength to punch your opponent in the face when you're already worn down and getting the remaining life squeezed of you.

And more on the actual topic, I think the reason you see a lot of the same moves on AFW (and why a lot of people stick to a more strike-based MMA style) is because it's simpler to write and relies less on your opponent understanding the move/playing along than a more complicated hold or throw does.

Isn't the venus flytrap basically "a folding pin BUT LOOK we added an armbar!"

More octopus stretch holds would be nice imo; actually prefer it to the ceiling hold in terms of general dexterity and sexiness.

Agreed with Alex and Acuya. Bearhugs aren't meant to be "hurt you for a bit" holds, they are meant as finishing holds, done to either finish a weakened opponent off, or take an already tired opponent and drain them of the last of their strength before going for your own finish.

Also, like Acuya, would like to see more basic stuff. Headlocks, chin locks, snap mares and such. Not as exciting, yes, but adds more to a match, especially opening bits.

Also, this is just me, and just cause I focus more on the wrestle wrestle than the sexy sexy side of things, but I'm glad to see there is more wrestling psychology in AFW matches today, with regards to movesets that fit the characters, and emphasis on consistency regarding selling, and especially finishers. Love being able to read stuff where a characters moves build up to and set/soften the other up for a finisher, rather than just "Ok, i'ma punch you in the face for 30 minutes, and then my finisher is a knee to your knee, its super effective" and less "let's just do moves that don't fit our characters style, size, or character because they look cool."

Im a sucker for power moves, probably flashy too if it isnt too weird and lame XP

At times if I see something neat online like youtube or random places for wrestling materials, I wanted to try it out if I could execute it, sometimes I come up something I dont think I've seen before.

Not a big fan of scissor holds as submission, but thats me.

I don't mind Boston Crabs, but I'd love to at least see more variations on the move. There are a bunch of neat twists to it, but most people just do the standard.

Do the Sharpshooter and Texas Cloverleaf count as Boston Crab variations? Those are two of my favorite submission holds. The sharpshooter does get used by notable characters like Alaina Sanders and Clyde Gastin, but I don't think I've ever seen the Cloverleaf get used in a match before. If there's any move that I would like to see more people using, it's that one.

They don't because they are completely separate moves from the Boston Crab.

I agree on the Sharpshooter and especially on the Cloverleaf though.

I'm a simple man. I see Ab stretches, Torture Racks, Grapevine pins, Dragon sleepers and Pendulum Swings, I press like and befriend that person.
