AFW Moving Forwards (Tat leaving)

This is going to be fairly short for now

As you may or may not be aware of, Tat has decided that the time is right to leave AFW. He has not only been a great mod, but also a great player and personality here at AFW so its very sad to see him go. If you didn't know, you can wish him farewell on the thread he posted up on the notice board.


My preliminary thinking going forwards is that I will take on one (or more likely a couple of) mod/s... Or at least people with elevated control/position who can act on such matters as PPV prep, title storyline control, new member bio approval, new member assistance etc...

Needless to say Tat did a lot around here and I am leaning towards a system in which the responsibilities will be spread across a number of parties, thus people won't feel swamped. Perhaps certain members will specialize in a field that they are good at (eg. if one of the selected mods always reads everyones bios, they might own the process of character approval), but thats something I need to think about more before deciding upon.

Sad to hear about Tat. All good things have to come to an end though right? Or in this case, all things beautiful.

Spreading things out across the board sounds good, sorta like a senior leadership approach. Everyone has one desingated area of primary control.

I am getting better at my SQL and my website design skills are still there, as well as my Autistic computer like, logic cruching , robot brain is here if you need any help filling Tats boots.

It's my feeble attempt at humour. And it's actually sorta true. Give me loads if numbers, data, problems and I can crunch them faster than most xD

I left a site I was modding for years before I joined AFW, and it was really hardbreaking for me to do so despite never meeting the largest majority of members in person and knowing how hard this work can tug at you sometime if you do it with the hearth. Therefore I don´t even find the hearth myself to wish him goodbye in his own thread right now and just hope that he will maybe return someday.

I welcome your idea for a spread responsibilty. I am positive that many great people who have the time, the hearth and the will to step forward to help keep AFW great.

The issue is we aren't very big. I can't think if many people you could appoint without pissing off half of the community

I guess you would be surprised how many people don´t want to mod or don´t want to mod anymore after 4 weeks. Of course I don´t know if the majority of you people actually duel in the first morning light because of issues happening on the site here, but I m pretty sure that the issues are not deep enough to keep a team from forming. I personally parted ways with some people because of some issues in the past(long moved on stuff from my side) and would still have not had a problem communicating with them if they were arguing fairly.

We will have to see. I can communicate with most, as long as they don't start personally attacking people. Then I get frustrated as it's uncalled for. I have never actually missed, despite being on. Roughly 15 sites, could never get people to take me seriously as there were others who had been around longer

Pretty sure the currently existing "Senior Staff" here at AFW can pull together and handle whatever duties are required.

We've got plenty of 6-8 and even two 10 year veterans around.

Simply put, we know our stuff, and if we are called upon to handle said duties, I don't see why "half the board would be pissed off" about it.

I left the site two years ago, in part because it felt like a small minority of the "senior" players were contributing to a fairly unhealthy atmosphere on the site (when a veteran sends you unprovoked personal abuse, and then refuses to apologize, it's hard not to conclude that there are entitlement issues there).

I really don't want to rake over that again, suffice to say that for a collaborative RPG site to work properly, it's probably best if people can post freely and without fear of baseless insults. This may no longer be an issue, and I am told that the site has matured in the months I have been away, but I know that I am not the only one who has, in the past, been turned off the community by the attitude of some of the regulars.

Not to say I don't generally agree with you, Tai, when you say "half the board" being pissed off is obviously an overstatement. I just think it is disingenuous to claim that there is no chance of any potential problems with casually appointing just anyone senior as a mod. I mean, I'm a 6 year veteran, and I'd be a fucking *terrible* choice.

I know I've been absent and my opinion doesn't count for much, but since there are going to be changes anyway, it might be a good time to have a frank discussion about what direction people would like AFW to go in. I vaguely remember making past suggestions about devolving the "high profile" match content away from the PPVs so they weren't solely Tat's responsibility... maybe ideas like that should be back on the table.

Though it's not really my thing anymore, so if you want to carry on as before, that's cool too.
