Re: Favorite Movie?
Have you seen this thing?
http://thenextweb.com/shareables/2010/01/05/pocahontas-avatar/
Of course I'll acknowledge that there are really only a handful of story archtypes when you boil them all down, but the producers of Avatar even said that they weren't trying to make a movie so much as create a brand. They said light on plot, heavy on marketability. They said it like that was a good thing.
And of course I know Fight Club. I loooove Edward Norton ("...And this button-down, Oxford-cloth psycho..."). I'm not a total devotee of the movie, despite my punk roots, but it was definitely a big movie for me when I saw it. The movie Capote comes to mind. I really liked it, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman is fantastic. And he's originally from the next town over from me, which is neat.

Please do not suggest that "people are bad at telling stories" (or "people are intentionally bad at telling stories because of how much they crave money") is equal to "there are no stories left to be told", tia.

NEWS FLASH: the Archergurl who you speaking of is not part of AFW anymore and she's currently working in production for new game titles in Japan. I'm her Canadian friend who she gave her PC due to mines has crashed. She was nice enough to give it to me to help a friend in need. So she got a spared one that she uses for the things I've mention above. BTW, Anegge and Alexandra be sure to check the E-mail adresses carefully. As Archergurl and me aren't the same thing.

No, that's not what I said at all. I'll give you an example, since we're on this board... let me find the article. Also how could people be bad at telling stories? What would you compare them to?
To talk specifically about pro wrestling, there's this article that I read a while back about the idea of storytelling.
http://sportales.com/wrestling/story-telling-in-pro-wrestling-what-is-it-exactly/
There's a great deal of room within the framework of pro wrestling to develop storylines and all that, but they pretty much all tend to fit into the one story archetype. And with other sorts of things, count how many movies or books or whatever you find with the lord of the rings plot (such as the movie 9, the animated one). Reduce rom-coms or romantic movies to their core elements etc etc, there are only so many shapes that stories have regardless of how differently they're decorated.
