Also, green text is a 4chan thing.
In MMA, both striking and grappling are allowed. In order to grapple, you have to be in close. To get there, you have to walk through the opponent's striking range. The way you close the distance on someone to attempt a takedown or a clinch is with strikes, the most basic of which being the overhand right into a double leg that wrestlers everywhere have used since ever.
Ronda has had so many fights in the limelight that everybody can zero in on just the right game plan and train specifically to shut her down, which Holly Holm and Jackson-Winkeljohn were perfect for. Holly is bigger, taller, longer, to say nothing of her credentials, and she used ridiculous movement and counterstriking to keep Ronda chasing her. The key for Ronda would have been to be more patient, not chase her, and try to time her, but that's not how Ronda fights. Stylistically, I saw Holly winning, but it's the sort of thing that you don't ever say before a fight.
Ronda might have like another big name fight or something, or she might just walk off now. She always said she didn't plan to be fighting into her 30's, and she has other things going. Before Ronda there was no women's MMA scene outside of the little ones, and now they have a competitive division that headlined the biggest event they've had (56k people). She could be done now and not feel bad about anything.

There will be fans who just trash Ronda after this and just tear her down. She lost a fight against somebody with a strategy that worked perfectly against her. Happens to the best of them. That doesn't make her a failure, or mean she's "fallen from grace", it means she lost a fight.
What's important is what she does next. My bets on her busting her ass training and improving and whooping ass next time she's in the octagon.
It seems somewhat mendacious to state that I trashed her or to argue in any way that I believe that she is a failure. Title fights are important and it seems like a bit of an exaggeration to call this one just 'a fight'. When one asks, "Who is the best fighter in any female division?" one would pause as opposed to just blurting out Ronda Rousey. Is that significant at all, in your opinion?

There is nothing wrong with being Gina Carrano in my opinion.

Or GSP, or like... Brian Stann or Tim Kennedy or whoever else. Pro wrestlers could learn a thing or two about retiring before they break down.

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
To be fair, Flair in his old age is still one of the best promo guys around. He could probably make you want him to be champ if he really put his all into it.
also on the old wrestler note: RIP Nick Bockwinkel

Re: Topic: Wrestling?
He is advertised for the tour in Germany too. I don´t know if this is the case because Ric flair is so big or because nobody knows any other wrestler here, but I really feel sorry for him that he has to headline a wrestling event at over 60 years because he is one of th handful of people left that are known in the public from WWE.

Advertised to appear doesn't automatically mean he's headlining and wrestling. It just means he'll be there.
WWE advertises the shit out of any and all special guests (which Ric counts as) whenever they tour anywhere. Its what they do.
