Honestly, it sounds like he's saying that theres not enough detail in people's bio's on the minor stuff, and seems to be implying by his words, his tone, the fact that he felt he had to mention his writing skill and then show off with an example, despite the fact that most of us here do a shitload of writing otherselves and never feel the need to show off about it, and the title of his page that if anyone who doesnt show the same level of description towards minor details like tattoes and scars that only he and Psychopatrick bother with means we must not be nearly as good an RPer as he is. Im offended by this. Ive been a member of this board since Free Adult Boards, Ive been rocking this place since 2004, and in terms of RPing in AFW, Im willing to bet that Ive had more shower time then he's had ring time, and there are a number of folks who can back me up on that. So maybe, just maybe, Ive misunderstood, maybe Im over reacting to something I didnt quite understand. Maybe Im drunk....ok, scratch that, I AM drunk....ok scratch that...Im REALLY drunk.... But besides that, at this moment, I feel that some rookie whos been here one year just insulted me and considers me to be beneath him just because I dont follow the same ultra detailed character rule that he does. That offends me.

Out of curiosity I checked out your profile for Kylie (Soiku), just to see if you did have any crazy detail in your bios and anything I could learn from. Maybe you just hold everything back for rp's and tried not to write much of a bio, but the past section was only two lines. I think for any bio that's a bit lacking, and I didn't see anything in there that indicated personality or uniqueness. Maybe you could give an example of the things you're talking about by linking specific threads that you've written? I think that'd be helpful.

No, it is not to brag, nor is it to belittle or berate; the point is to try and gather from people there reasons on why they don't attempt to make more unique characters or different characters than just the ordinary type, what makes people decide to stick to conventional characters rather than unique and odd. As far as experience, it only helps if the RP'er in question learns anything and attempts to improve/improves at what they do; a 1 week old RP'r can easily become better than other, more seasoned RP'ers if they apply themselves and learn from reading others posts, asking tips or through hands on experience.~

The topic title is meant to be an opening line and a little humorous, not mean or harmful. The tone is questioning not looking down on people which I frankly don't approve of or participate in unless it is to someone who truly deserves it; which is rare~

I used the condensed and shortened character description to show what I meant by unique/odd while still being emotionally believable; an example to show people what I meant. Is it really that big of a deal to mention once on this board that I have been offered a story collection deal for one books worth of stories when it's something I was proud of to get the offer? I also found that it was easily relatable to the topic of character ceation and unique/odd characters; I'm honestly not a braggart, I prefer to just try and talk about things and learn about and from people; I was only trying to learn and discuss with people in this thread~ :" Y

My characters are dated by a good number of standards and need to be fixed badly~

So I decided that I would ask people about character design, reasons for straying from the odder/different/more unique characters and simultaneously announce that I'm updating/fixing my characters~

I really don't have any decent RP's on here since I've been wanting to improve my post style as well but this topic is beginning to make me think I should just have not posted it; people are seeming to think that I meant to be mean or something less than nice when I wrote it~ ;"U

I think that like it or not, we were reacting mostly to your tone. It's the same tone I've seen in other threads from you. It's something you should be aware of... misunderstandings are one thing, but you can't argue with people's impressions.

Anyway, I'm going to take a crack at summarizing your initial questions... here goes. I think that you noticed that not all characters on this site appear to have been created to be complete people, but instead as sort of purpose-built wrestler girls. Shallow. That's true. Everyone has their own tastes and styles and that's fine, there's no rule saying that every character has to be a human work of art. Also, everyone has different levels of creative and linguistic and dramatic ability, and that's fine too, there's no rule that says that you have to be super awesome to be here.

Personally, I try to make my characters into lifelike, sympathetic people that are multifaceted and able to change and evolve over time. I don't find much success rp'ing with people who take an approach too different to mine, not because mine is better but because collaborative writing only really works when each person has roughly the same criteria for the rp.

As for risks, that part is a bit more hazy to me. I understand the concept of getting off the beaten path, but I'm not sure as to how you see risks playing out in character design. I don't believe that a character has to be made fantastic or bizarre or even super-cool in order to be an interesting and compelling character, but that could just be because the things I look for in a character have nothing to do with that. The prime mover of a character to me has to do with humanizing them, personifying them, or some other term that my uneducated brain doesn't have on file. If I made a cookie-cutter j-pop wrestler character, but rp'd her earnestly and with emotion and nuance, I think it could be just as successful as someone totally off the wall. That being said, straight characters are needed to make the weird ones weird.

Anyway having this unresolved thread full of unhappy people who don't really know what's being said eats at me. I want us to be a big happy family and to have open discussions about stuff. Hope this maybe helped a little bit.

Id have to agree with Bluemouse about your tone. Whatever your intentions were, your tone came off as that of a braggart and smartass, you gave the impression that you were better then everyone because you did/knew something nobody else did. The fact that your wording was so confusing that most of the people who read/responded to it simply didnt know what the hell you were talking about also supported that decision. You mention earlier that experience only helps if the RPer in question learns something. The way that comment came off when added to your earlier comments made it sound like you were saying that you were better then me, which is offensive. So, take this experience and learn something: When posting a question like yours, make damn sure your using precise wording and make sure its clear and understandable to all involved, because questions like yours are just BEGGING to be misinterpeted like that.

No, I was saying that any RP'er can become better than anyone, and I don't see how adding that comes off as me implying/saying I'm better than you when I was only trying to keep the discussion civil and prove the point that it's creativity and learning from experiences that count. While I'm sorry if it comes off the wrong way I didn't mean for it to sound rude or mean at all; just trying to point that out. My wording was meant to be questioning to try and draw out answers without being mean or rude and when you consider that I'm not a braggart, something which can be proven by my past posts. I thought that my wording was precise so I'm not really sure how to better word it since that might come off as condescending~ : "Y

@Mouser: I don't quite find that a character needs to be awesome but I do think that it's nice when I see the more unique characters~

On a seperate note, I think that it's nice to actually find a good RP Partner but I can't quite judge someone's style at RP'ing without having an RP with them but your karma count /karma comments at the very least seems to indicate good things~

I think that a character can easily be humanized but I'm not quite sure about shallow; more like not developed to a full extent. As to doing stufff with characters to make them more realistic and emotional/emotionally believable, I'm all for it~
