You know those no-compete clauses aren't valid in a court of law, right?"

Essentially they're a bullying tactic. None of them hold up under any scrutiny, Lesnar had an extra long one thrown out when he challenged it.

I'm gonna just kinda defend WWE on this one a little.

No compete clauses are really not something that can hold up in court, it's true, and WWE isn't going to sue anyone over it, but its not entirely a bad thing.

Yes, you can break a 90 day no compete clause at any time, and many people lament the clauses, because then they have to wait three months for their favorite wrestler to show up and such...but, then again, look at it this way.

Your favorite wrestler just got 90 days of free pay, to do whatever they want with. Get in better shape, recover from nagging injuries, time with family. Think about it, why would a wrestler have an issue with what's basically a 3 month paid vacation?

That's a fair point and in the era where the best alternative was TNA or ROH that would be enough for most people not to break it, not to mention it often didn't count if you did an indy show as long as it wasn't streamed or televised. But for the context of jumping ship it's not gonna stop people and if they try to use it as a blocker like they did to Lesnar in 2004.

Yeah, they'll never be able to use it as a real blocker ever again, and really, even this idea of "Well, if they are off TV for 3 months, it lowers their stock!" doesn't really apply anymore. Pac was off TV for over a year, not stopping him from making an impact in Dragon Gate.

In fact with how bad the TV is, having a 3 month period of not looking like a dork is somewhat of a boon.

So in short, the no compete clauses are good things!
