Never again.

Valley was never going to have another hardcore match. Not if she could help it.

As she laid back in the AFW infirmary and waited for the doctor to give her the go-ahead to leave, that was the #1 thought that had passed through her mind. The #2 thought was how her mother had repeatedly warned her against the matches, and how she’d gone without doing them for most of her wrestling career. The fact was that her body wasn’t built for it - there was a reason hardcore wrestlers tended to be on the heavier side of the wrestling spectrum. Her girlfriend was a rare exception to the rule. More often than not,  hardcore divisions were comprised of women like River Styx or Liberty Vella or the nutjob she’d just gotten through fighting, Lea.

She started to sit up on the doctor’s table and hissed when a sharp pain went down her back, courtesy of the hellish tumble she’d taken down those steps. Her back would be remembering that one for a while. Longer still, she’d be remembering the look on Lea’s face, the hatred as they dragged her away. She wouldn’t accept another match from the blonde, but she had a strong feeling that wasn’t the last she had seen of her.

Valley didn’t know Lea personally, but she knew her type. The crazy type. The driven type. The type that tend to hold grudges for an unreasonable amount of time and bring them up at the least convenient time.

But that was a problem for another day.  For now, she was more concerned with getting out, going home, cuddling up with Hayley, and reading a good Star Wars novel until she konked out. Fortunately, the doctor didn’t hold her over too long, and after a few minutes she was let go to do just that.

With the belt on her shoulder, Valley walked through the halls towards the locker room, taking her time as she went. No need to stress out anymore than she already was.

Valley hadn’t been minding her surroundings too much, too focused on the pain and the stress and thinking about who her next opponent would be for the Entropy Title. At the moment, her number one priority was getting back to her locker room and taking a nice, hot shower. Maybe a bit in the massage chair, too. Yeah. Nice.

She was snapped out of this fantasy when she looked up and saw someone coming straight towards her. She had just enough time to register two things: 1, the person wasn’t fully clothed, wearing little more than a bikini, and 2, she was heading towards her with no sign of slowing down.

”Wait, wait, don’t-” Valley’s warnings came out too slow to be headed, and whoever this was crashed into her at full steam, practically glomping her. If it wasn’t for the wall behind her, she might’ve fallen down, which would’ve made this awkward scene all the more awkward.

”Ow! Ow, geez!” Valley fidgeted about, as she rubbed sweaty bodies against the woman who was most definitely not her girlfriend. ”Yes, I am Valley Doll, let go, please!”

After Valley was released, she found the nearest wall and slumped against, vaguely considering going back to the infirmary. More and more, she was longing for a soft bed and even softer girlfriend to share it with.

For the moment, though, her attention focused on Kaylee, particularly when she mentioned her mother. She'd thought the wrestler looked familiar, and now it was all coming back to her - Jessica, that hellish feud, the little scuff with her daughter. The final years of Slamazon were a crazy time, and it was easy to lose memories in the mess, forget faces - it certainly didn’t help that she was certain Kaylee’s hair hadn’t been pink the last time they met. But yeah…

”Huh.” She held up a hand, just enough to block off Kaylee’s hair and focus on her face. Sure enough, it was the same bright-eyed, spunky girl she’d taken on all that time again. And beaten. Fairly decisively, as she recalled, ”Ha, small world after all. It's good to see you.” She raised an eyebrow. ”You’re with the AFW now?”

It was kind of a dumb question, yes, but she was curious to learn how that happened.  She was especially curious how Jess felt about  how her daughter joining a league where half of the fights weren’t even viewable on American television. Judging by the outfit Kaylee wore - or lack thereof - she could make an educated guess on just what sort of wrestler she was, too.

Valley just sighed as she was hit with a tsunami of nostalgia. It was funny, really. Slamazons seemed like so long ago these days. She’d been in the AFW for years, and so many facets of her life had changed. Her outfit, her hair, even her body. A new girlfriend, new enemies, new challenges, a new title. She’d changed scenery and the scenery changed her.

But she was still Valley Doll.

She was dragged back from her trip down memory lane when Kaylee mentioned what her Mom was up to - she hadn’t been aware of a new league, but she was glad to hear it. Maybe a trip back to the States was in order…

”Huh, that’s cool to hear. Your Mom was always kind of...I guess ‘industrious’ is the right word for it.” Valley could’ve thought of some less glamorous words, but best not to dig into old wounds. Particularly when her daughter was right there and was glowing just to meet her. “Glad to hear she got that working.” Valley started to walk again, motioning for Kaylee to move beside her. ”Why can’t you compete, though? I mean, not that you don’t belong here, and it’s good to see you, too. Long way, though.”

A few years ago, the mention of hentai wrestling with the barely-legal woman beside her would’ve made Valley extremely uncomfortable. Now, she just kind of shrugged it off. Funny how Japan changes people.

”Parents are weird.” Valley decided to leave it that, not wanting to spend anymore time in this minefield than absolutely necessary.  She could certainly imagine what her own mother’s reaction. Wailing, gnashing of teeth, broken seals, et cetera…

”Anyway, thanks.” She gave the belt an obligatory pat, proudly hoisting it further up on her shoulder. She was finding out it could be a bit cumbersome, like it wasn’t even meant for smaller women. ”Took a lot to get it, but it was worth it. Kind of surreal, thinking about it.”

She started to slip down memory lane, before she remembered she had a tagalong. ”So...hentai wrestling? How did you even get into that? America didn't get a whole lot less prudish after I left, did it?”
