Please be aware that by default, you will not receive any mail notification, nor pop up window to inform you that you have received a pm... The new messages that you have in your inbox can be seen just under the AFW logo next to "User Control Panel". If you want you can go to the User Control Panel and then click on the Board Preferences tab to set an option that will make a pop up window appear when receiving new private messages.

Also, if you delete a message from your outbox before the recipient receives the message, they will be left with a message saying something to the effect of "This message has been deleted by the sender". Usually it would seem that the system automatically deletes messages you've sent from your outbox as soon as the recipient opens it.
