Been relaying KOTOR 2. Kreia's still interesting, but I also liked Atton. I like how he presents himself as Han Solo sort of dude, but then you find out he's got a messed up backstory.

That's weird. IGN seems to think they made 2, but Wikipedia doesn't...WHO DO I TRUST!? At any rate they did make 1 so I just assumed they made 2.

They PUBLISHED the game, but Obsidian developed it.

Literally the same writers worked on everything we've mentioned so far. Jade Empire, KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age, among other things.

Not the same writers. Bioware has a ton of writers they cycle through games, and they have a bunch of them they've added since Jade Empire.

I just don't like most of modern Bioware's stuff, and it's not just writing, it's writing and gameplay.

Mass Effect 3 was insulting with it's ending. Dragon Age 2 was weak as hell compared to the first. The Old Republic was laughably bad. Sonic Chronicles is the worst game they've ever made.

I just don't trust modern Bioware to live up my expectations and deliver a Jade Empire sequel that's worthy of the name. Now, if they handed Jade Empire to Obsidian and let them do a sequel, well...

Inquisition was a step up, but I don't think they're capable of making another good Jade Empire, in the same way that Capcom won't make another good mainline Resident Evil game. My heart wants them to make RE2make, but my brain knows it isn't a good idea. My heart also wants DMC x RE. I just want Dante vs Wesker. But man they would fuck it up super bad unless they made a time machine and made the game back when both IP's were relevant.

Edit: Frankly, the only company I trust to keep making good games at the moment is Atlus. Praise Atlus! They almost went bankrupt never letting us down with their niche games!

I'm sure there are new writers, but it's not exactly as shifty as you describe.

Drew Karpyshyn and Mac Walters co-lead wrote the ME series, though Drew left for the third installment. Drew Karpyshyn was a lead writer for KOTOR and both him and Mac wrote for Jade Empire too. The Dragon Age series' lead writer is David Gaider, who also worked on on KOTOR. Jade Empire's lead writer is Lukas Kristjanson, who also wrote for just about everything else that's been mentioned as well. There's other writers too, but if you take a look, you'll see that their team is typically fairly consistent outside of swapping lead writers.

Anywho, I think the writing has always been consistently well done. The ending to ME3 was whatever, but it's silly to ignore the awesome journey that got you there just because the last ten minutes of the game are lackluster. DA2's story was certainly different in tone and scope, but I'd disagree that it was bad compared to the first game. DA:I blows them both out of the water, just for the record.

But aside from the story elements, I can understand people having different preferences in regard to gameplay. But seriously, I'd take Bioware writing Jade Empire 2 over Obsidian--a developer who has barely created a single, creative, IP of their own--annnnny day.

You mean IPs like Alpha Protocol and Pillars of Eternity?
