Megumi, the foolish protector of the Sacred Grove Empty Megumi, the foolish protector of the Sacred Grove

Post by ThunderinSilence Sun Oct 19, 2014 2:19 pm

Name: Megumi, although also known by many epithets such as "Foolish", "Headstrong" and "Gluttonous"
Sex: Female
Age: Really, really old
Eyes: Bright green
Hair: Silver grey
Height: 5'4" / 6'1"
Weight: 117lbs / A hell of a lot more
Species: Kitsune
Alignment: She strives to be a face, but is often pushed into more tweener ground by The Maw
Entrance music:

Tactics:  Megumi has a wide array of tactics, thanks to her ability to draw upon the spirit of the bound Oni within her. Her normal tactics revolve around evasion, trickery and rapid attacks, supplemented by her magic. When using the Oni however, her skillset changes wildly, and she becomes a brawler with little grace but a lot of skill at demolishing opponents up-close. The transformation is a lengthy process however, meaning Megumi often has to choose which method she will use before entering a match - while she may briefly alter forms mid-match, it rarely lasts more than thirty seconds without the proper time to maintain the change.

Preferred Attacks: In her regular form, Megumi focuses on rapid strikes and counters, using her magic to trick an opponent into making a poor decision and exploiting the weakness. While using The Maw's power, the tactics become brutally simple - smash the enemy with punishing strikes and power moves.

Preferred Matches: Megumi is still exploring her preferences, but given her flexible nature she can handle a wide array of matches.

Endurance: ★★ / ★★★★★★
Strength: ★★ / ★★★★★★
Speed: ★★★★ / ★
Defence: ★★★★ / ★
Technique: ★★ / ★★★★★
Magical Skill: ★★★ / ★
Intelligence: ★★★★ / ★

Favoured moves:

Finishing moves: Yet to be determined

Powers:
Magic - Megumi has a degree of magical competency, although she has nowhere near the skill of a dedicated practitioner since she was still a relative novice when the rest of her clan left. What she has learned has mainly been self-taught or reverse engineered from old wards around the grove she protects, focusing on illusion and trickery.

Transformation - Through a meditative chant, Megumi can draw upon the power of The Maw to infuse her body, making it grow vast and more powerful, although the amount of energy does cause her body to bloat substantially. While less agile, this form has immense strength, great endurance and allows Megumi to use the combative skill of the Oni, making her a fearsome brawler.

Appearance:

Spoiler:

Wrestling Attire: Yet to be determined

Personality: Megumi has a deep curiosity for anything new, and finds technology to be especially fascinating, even when such devices might prove less impressive than what her magic can produce. She is generally full of questions and has a bit of a malfunctioning social filter when it comes to figuring out when to stop asking them. She means well though, and her time spent as a guardian to a sacred grove has honed her more headstrong nature with a sense of duty. When overly influenced by The Maw however, her more selfish traits tend to be increased, especially concerning her appetite and her lust.

Past/History: In a distant age of Japan's history, there existed a grove sacred to Inari, who bid a clan of Kitsune to safeguard it from harm. The grove contained a tree from which grew a fruit so sweet and nutritious that it could keep a mortal alive for a hundred years without ever feeling the pangs of hunger, but word of such amazing fruit drew the attention of many who would coveted such wonders for themselves. The greatest of these threats was the Oni known as The Maw, a gluttonous creature of immense strength and supreme skill in battle that wished to consume the tree and all its fruits. The Kistune had no one who could match the raging monster in battle, but they had no need to, for The Maw was as foolish as it was powerful, and constantly fell for the tricks and illusions laid as traps, always steering the brute away from the grove.

Megumi was born into this tribe, and grew up being told that her duty would be to maintain the wards and illusions to ensure the safety of the village and the grove. The child was headstrong however, and constantly thought of ways that The Maw might be removed as a threat forever, allowing the village to be less strict in its discipline and perhaps even allow Megumi to travel beyond the borders of the forest as she desired. The elders would have none of it - while a fool, The Maw was too dangerous to confront directly, and too powerful for their magic to harm. Unconvinced, Megumi began to study some of the more advanced banishing techniques, resolving to face the vicious Oni.

Her chance came as the beast began to stomp into the forest, as determined as ever to find the grove. The vast creature was surprised when, for the first time in centuries, it found its path barred by a tiny creature that glared at him, a paper ward in its hands. Unconcerned, The Maw sought to consume it, but was surprised when the little creature began to chant, unravelling the huge Oni into a spirit mist, and even more so when the little creature began to suck it into herself! Megumi had turned herself into a living seal to bind The Maw's essence within her, and returned to the village with a triumphant smile. Her triumph was fleeting however - the power of The Maw swiftly overwhelmed her, and she went on a rampage within the village itself. While the kitsune clan avoided the worst of the damage, the possessed Megumi stripped the tree of its fruit in a gluttonous frenzy, before sinking into a sleep as her body shrank back to its original size. As she slept, the village elders wove a spell of slumber over her that would extend her rest for centuries, hoping that they could find a solution in that time, but Inari bid them not to - the clan had performed their duties well for centuries, and they were granted a place in the realms of the God, but Megumi would be left as the last warden of the now barren tree as a punishment for her foolish decision, only permitted to awaken when the grove would be at risk.

Megumi's early experience with her possession were alarming and frightening, and all the more so for having to do it alone. The Maw would often control her thoughts and actions, but as time wore on the kistune learned to control the ravenous energies, and even learnt to perform the transformation without losing herself to the Oni. The Maw grew most powerful when restless and bored, and thus to keep it sated Megumi would often confront the various bandits and monsters still lurking in the forests in combat, appeasing The Maw's more violent urges. Things did not remain constant however, and the world began to change around her as she slumbered. When she most recently awoke, the world had become a wildly different place, and she found humans had begun to cut back the forest, building houses in their place. While she managed to halt their advance through trickery and a modicum of property damage, the grove would never be truly safe in this new world...which meant Megumi did not fall back into her deep sleep. She was free to explore this strange new world, provided that the grove remained safe enough not to be desecrated.

Megumi has since thrown herself into this strange new world, finally having a chance to explore and learn of new things. Meanwhile, The Maw has become little more than a presence in the back of her mind, pushing her to experience new things, especially food (although thanks to the fruit of the tree, Megumi will never starve for thousands of years to come), although when bored it would still cause Megumi headaches. In order to appease it, Megumi has sought out the new warriors of the age, these "wrestlers" to match herself against, to keep her skills sharp and The Maw content.
