Greninja is awesome, yeah. If he had a bubble scarf he'd probably be indisputably amazing, but the tongue scarf is a little bit ehh. Still, like, totally awesome, though.

He's based on a type of frog that wraps their young in bubbles to protect them.

He's an adult, so he doesn't need the bubbles anymore.

There's more thought and reasoning put into most Pokemon designs than most people know. You'd be surprised what you can learn, reading the trivia pages on Bulbapedia.

And the reason for so few Pokemon is 1) Because they added a ton of Mega evolutions, and 2) They had to redo everything in 3D.

70 is a fine number of new monsters, all things considered.

I've always loved the rhyme to the reasons behind the designs. "On The Origin of Species" is probably my favorite column on the Bulbanews page. ^^
