Natalie’s first love as a child was a camera. In the humdrum of peaceful and boring suburban life, movies at night were here earliest and favorite pastimes. Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan became household names with the amount of time they kept on repeat inside the VHS. They were the heroes that lined her bedroom shelves and decorated her walls. Her parents knew getting her into karate classes was just a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’.

But it wasn’t just the action that Natalie loved. It was the stories and the way they were told. The chance to hold a camera alone excited her to no end. Every little thing she and her friends did together she recorded and played back to herself later on the family computer. Movies were her first and strongest passion. At first she just wanted to be an actor, but that changed in middle school as she became more involved with computers and video software. As a full-fledged high school student, she had dreams of making it as a major film producer.

That may have even worked out. As a whole Natalie’s college coursework was just good enough to keep her from flunking out. What she never failed was to earn high praises from her submissions to student film festivals around Montreal. Her editing and work with high-octane VFX made her stand out consistently. On a whim she started a small YouTube channel at first to host her student projects, but eventually branched out to stuff she could actually have fun with. Her karate expertise made it easy to put out a few short action scenes with her friends. Those soon became the first of her videos to get out of triple digits. Ad revenue started coming in only weeks after that, and then eventually offers to collaborate with other small-time makers where she could pick up tricks and tips for adding her own visual effects, even delving into CGI.

That was when she had the idea for her short film, Power Trigger. A science fiction action movie with a lone cyborg-heroine seeking revenge against the neo-dystopic corporation that destroyed her life. Natalie pictured herself at the center, looking between the trending page of YouTube comments and the paper she had due in the next two hours. She ditched the coursework and decided to chase her dream.

Moving into a small apartment closer to downtown, Natalie dedicated more time to exercise and reconnecting with her old athletics. She returned to her roots with karate and pushed herself far enough to reach a brown belt. Between the more formal martial arts training, she dabbled in light bodybuilding and aerobics, trying to shape her body as best she could in pursuit of her magnum opus. After months of script writing, exercising, and strong arming what few friends from Drama she still had on speedial, eventually all the scenes for her passion project were shot from start to finish. Two more weeks of sleepless nights for aftereffects, post-processing, and a whole lot of wire removal, Power Trigger was ready to publish.

Overwhelming praise awaited when the film first hit her channel. The impressive visuals and remarkable choreography supported an otherwise average story and writing. She even managed to score a half-decent IMDB rating. When her film inevitably started trending, subscribers flooded in and doors started to open for her beyond the confines of ad revenue and sponsorships.

Producers looking a bit more outside of the box for their projects found her VFX-oriented cinematography to have the kind of youthful appeal they’d been looking for. Over the next few years, Natalie found herself traveling all over the United States, pursuing gigs from special effects for smaller content creators to entire fight scenes for Netflix originals. Needless to say for a girl that had never left her hometown, it was a huge change of pace from what she was used to. She was richer, for one. Which was nice. But more importantly, Natalie was able to see the reaction to her talent firsthand. Her popularity mutated from some cool, faceless girl with a knack for editing software into a full-on celebrity that worked magic on the big screen. Natalie took that chance to redefine herself and started penning a new name for her professional lifestyle: Boom. Ms. Roy, at your service.

Now aside from B-roll, Nikki’s cross-country travels became an infinite source of A-tier vlogging material. Taking her fans behind the scenes and exuding a new image for the woman behind the camera, Nikki constantly sought to up the stakes in her daily life as much as she did for the action in each of her projects. On a separate channel, she designed her own parkour routes and filmed a couple of first-person runs with just as much trespassing. Gaming events, conventions, and fan meet-ups packed her schedule between work time. Triathlons and public sparring sessions replaced her usual private workouts, even picking up spots in regional karate tournaments wherever she tended to end up. The more she accomplished, the more confident she seemed to become.

Her competitiveness and natural looks for the camera started garnering offers from all sorts of athletic organizations. Everything from surfing to cycling to MMA. There was one offer that surprised her though from AFW, a global wrestling federation out of Japan. Nikki had heard about it in passing from friends that kept closer tabs on combat sports than she did, and frankly, she was more interested than she thought she would be. Pro-wrestling was never something she had much of an interest in, but AFW had done a lot to distinguish itself from the North American and European leagues. For one, they were a lot more flexible and always willing to up the ante in their matches.

Guts and creativity could go a long way there.

- Nikki is a regular returning contestant to American Ninja Warrior. It's been a good way to get her name out and stock up on footage to share on her channel.
- Nikki is toying with the idea of getting into live streaming one of these days. Despite the litany of gaming references she puts into her short films, she isn’t actually all that good at them.
- Loves driving her moped around town. Navigating Japanese streets has been a challenge for her but she looks forward to exploring the open road and maybe getting out into the countryside one of these days.
- After stumbling onto a street performance, Nikki has become a surprisingly dedicated practitioner of Yosakoi. If she's in the mood, she'll head to nearest city park, with a happi coat and stereo system in hand to sharpen her skills. She's training hard to participate in the official festival held in Tosa next year.
