As soon as Miranda heard those three words, her hand moved towards the back of her corset. She had won, as was to be expected. The odds were stacked so heavily against the cheerleader that any other outcome would have been a sheer fluke or a miracle graced from a higher being. While it didn’t show at all, Sakura’s sad wail did in fact affect Miranda…though not quite in the same way as others would expect. Rather than feeling hurt or sad, Sakura’s pained scream made Miranda curious. The only sense of regret the scientist had was the fact that she had not thought of her question earlier.

Miranda had assumed that due to the subject’s critical injuries, any serum injected into her at this point would void any tests results due to the unknown number of factors being in play at the moment. No matter what, the results would be skewed and useless…but, what if she monitored its healing properties? Could the enhancer that Miranda created repair damaged muscle tissue? Could it actually improve said tissue? And make them even stronger than before? The formula was meant to push the human body to its absolute limit in terms of speed and strength, but Miranda had never even conceived the idea of using it on a wounded specimen. Hypothetically, the formula would give everything a boost, from the subject’s brain power, to its ability to take damage. Why would it not boost the bodies healing properties? If that worked…then the subject would not need to be consistently dosed in order to maintain their superior abilities…their muscles would be stronger by design!

An unexpected variable had presented itself, one that could improve upon Miranda’s design. All of it came from the most unlikely source. Inspiration struck Miranda like a bolt of lightning through what might have been called a heart and it was all thanks to young Sakura. The scientist quietly thanked the passed-out foe as she retrieved a case that was hidden in her corset. The referee was too busy with Sakura to pay attention to Miranda, who maintained a distance from them, and security was too far away to stop what Miranda had planned. The scientist could not wait to test her theory…not when opportunity was right at her feet! Her serum would either make Sakura stronger than ever, or boil her from the inside out! She had to learn what would happen.

Miranda opened the case that contained the needle filled with the serum…and sighed heavily. Her excitement dampened immediately as her hand reached in and plucked at the object inside. Somehow, at some point, the needle had snapped off during the combat, making injection of the serum impossible. Miranda stared at her destroyed instrument for a moment, before closing the case and returning it to where it had been.

The scientist left the ring without disturbing her passed out opponent, the crowds booing her and even going so far as to throw items at her as she ascended the ramp. Miranda paid them no mind, too far gone in her own thoughts. Logic couldn’t explain why her instrument had broken inside the case specifically designed to protect it. There was only one way to describe how it happened, and Miranda absolutely despised it.

“She got lucky…

Winner by submission: Miranda Blair
