A Day Just For Us

Oops. Seemed Julia might’ve caught Drake a tad off guard there. Still, something about his reaction was just adorable. She was about to tell him he didn’t have to, but he had dashed away to the kitchen before a word could escape her lips.

The blonde giggled, then quickly became much more aware of all the prying eyes she’d easily been able to ignore mere seconds ago. Without glancing in any of their directions, Julia took a step inside and closed the door behind her.

Julia moved a bit closer to the kitchen, lifting her head up as if to try to peek and see what all was in there. Though she didn’t see much, aside from what Drake called out. “Kabobs sound great!” Julia replied when her boyfriend asked.

Hearing Julia's support in the face of such great uncertainty fills him with determination.

Kabobs are totally something he can handle. And in a flash, he has setup underway. Chopping table, cutting knife, meat, assorted veggies, and even a pale cheese of some kind. There's a chance his standard of preparedness is a bit more elevated than others his age - or Julia just may warrant this much effort. It's probably both.

Before he sets things in motion, he bumps the refrigerator closed with the heel of his foot and pivots to the blonde, knife-in-hand wagging as he speaks. "What all do you like on'em? I have green peppers, red peppers, beef cutlets, lime..." He trails off, giving her a chance to answer.

“Hmmm...” Julia tapped her chin and pondered the options laid out for her. “Beef and lime definitely, then...” It’d been a while since she’d had kabobs of any kind, at least a year or two. Her dad made them occasionally back home, but she couldn’t quite remember all the ingredients he’d used.

“Aaaand I’ll go with the red peppers.” she finally decided.

"That's all?," asks a surprised Drake, eyebrows raised. "Alright."

Without skipping a beat, he whirls around to clear the unnecessary ingredients away. He anticipated she'd like peppers. She's a cowgirl, after all. A lucha-cowgirl. He's stereotyping. But he'd expected she'd want more - perhaps pork? Something. Did he mention he has pork? His mind races at the same speed as the knife in hand, chopping first the veggie. Second, the limes are cut into thin strips, and finally, the beef... doesn't really require much attention. It's already in cutlets. So screw it.

The knife is discarded and he hops back to the 'fridge. "Might be a little strong, but... eh, you'll tell me," he mumbles to himself as he fishes around. A green bottle is acquired and kept close to his chest for secrecy's sake. The contents are applied to the ingredients, the bottle returned, and the whole thing is set to cook.

At last, he turns to Julia.

"Bragged about ya, y'know," he suddenly notes with a lighthearted smile.

“I’m sure it’ll be great.” Julia replied with a chuckle as she watched him set about cooking the kebobs. And he seemed to be pretty good at this. Granted, Julia hadn’t requested a very complicated meal, but there were plenty of guys she’d known who couldn’t have done it. And most who could likely couldn’t have made it look so easy.

When he spoke again, Julia blushed ever so slightly and moved closer to Drake. “Yeah? What’d ya say?” Naturally, a girl always wants to feel special, and few things did the trick like being bragged on by their significant other. She had no clue who he’d been talking to or the context behind it, but she was eager to hear the story.

"Well, you know. The basics," replies Drake, shoulders dipping forward in coy fashion. "How I'm dating the prettiest girl in Japan. How she's tough, strong, managed to somehow," he emphasizes teasingly, "beat me, but is totally sweet."

His fists raise, and one pops at her shoulder - gently. "I think they approve."

Julia listened to the sweet words flowing from her boyfriend’s lips, and continued to move toward him. After he bopped her on the shoulder, the blonde chuckled and reached her arms up and around the back of his neck, then stood on the tips of her toes to reach up and plant a quick kiss on his lips.

“And did ya tell ‘em how lucky I am to be dating the most handsome man around? How he’s athletic, kind, funny...” she glanced over at the food he was preparing, then looked right back into his eyes again. “...and can cook a meal for two on the fly?” she said with a giggle.

The smile softens following that brief contact with Julia's lips. It spreads steadily the more she lavishes him, his arms coming to loop around her waist. Her mention of cooking snaps his attention quickly to the food in progress, if just to give it a quick visual check to ensure it hasn't caught fire, then back to her.

Drake tilts his head forward to touch noses with her, then proceeds to give a nuzzly eskimo kiss. "I could do that, but bragging about how awesome you are to your parents is tacky," he whispers. Had she realized he was talking about his parents?

Julia nuzzled her nose with Drake’s, then giggled a bit at his response. So it was his parents he’d been referring to. That had been one of the blonde’s guesses, though as far as she knew he could’ve just as easily been talking about, well....just about anyone.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Then I’ll just have to tell ‘em myself if I ever meet ‘em,” Julia replied, before giving her beloved boyfriend another kiss.

Their lips connect again, and yet again when Drake continues the peppering of affection. "You're gonna sound all smitten~," he teases, not at all conveying the sense that he isn't okay with it. "My dad thinks you sound awesome. Cowgirl luchadora? Heck yeah." His head ducks, his smile replaced with a more sheepish variant. "Mom about had a heart attack when I showed'er your picture. It happened to be you in your wrestling gear, and.. it shows ya off, y'know?"

Beat.

"Dad got it. Mom's a mom, though. A-and I showed'er a picture of you when we were out together. She made that high-pitched 'aww' noise, so I think we're good."
