A Fork Stuck in the Road

Talia continued to stare at the wall. This felt familiar. It was another bad idea that could only end in bad ways. Just like it did with Johnny on their date, Taylor at the club, and Akashi backstage. All good concepts ending with disaster because they...because Talia was horrible at being a decent human being. "I guess...but...you...what would we even do?" she asked hesitantly. She didn't know Canada. It was cold...and big...and the opposite of what Talia called home.

"I don't know...but...if you're willing to deal with me...I guess so..."

"Oh, don't worry, we can..." Cassie trailed off. She'd do it? Even more amazing than Cassie extending the offer, Talia actually agreed? She couldn't believe it. It was the most surreal feeling.

She opened her mouth to go on, but nothing came out, her throat closed up tight. There was silence on the line for a moment, and then Cassie began to cry, softly at first and then harder and harder. She rolled over onto her stomach with her knees under her, as if genuflecting alone in her bedroom while her body shook with uneven sobs.

"I... They'll love you," she promised.
