But if you happen to be stuck in a town full of rednecks and the outbreak occurs, you're pretty much screwed if you stay. *Avoid close combat. Nothing screams more "noble sacrifice" than to arm yourself with an axe or a knife. Contrary to common believe a chainsaw does also not run out of fuel after 2 minutes of use, so I would deem it acceptable.
*Seek higher ground with rations and stay quiet until you're absolutely sure that help will arrive if you make noise.
*Try to find a binocular, a screwdriver, matches and rations.
*If you have a panic or nuclear protection room, use it! No better time to panic than something like this...
*Coins. Maybe you find an automaton with candy, and breaking in would make noise and attract Zombies.
*Neck Brace and Helmet. How many people get infected by a bite in the neck?
*Splatter Gun > Revolver.
*Find the military.
*Hijack a car or better a heavy truck!
*Heavy clothing, maybe it helps against a single zombie.

Good thing I live on the outskirts of town (And society in general for that matter.) The countryside is just a 20 minute drive from where I'm at. I reckon I'd get out with minimal faff. <img src=

Most governments don't find this really laughable.

There is an official defense plan in case zombies attack(I kidd you not) at least in the USA. It's basically just a code word for a virulent outbreak of a high fatality virus or a engineered bio weapon that sweeps out of control and has to be contained with military force, but it is there.^^
