As a first outing for this rebooted account, I'd like to engage some opponent in a matroom, or something equivalent, with a focus on BJJ, Catch Wrestling, MMA, etc. It can range from actual training (preferably of the character I play but I can do yours even if I'd like further teaching for BJJ.) to an extreme match. HOW I GET TITLE MATCH? LIKE THIS!
NOTE: Any questions, comments, or concerns relating from this thread, direct them to me via PM or Discord. Even if you want to just call me an asshole.So, as I've pointed out in another thread, I've been going around asking people to give their feedback about their thoughts on the site, the mods, issues they want addressed, issues they have with the mods, changes they would like to see on the board, things of that nature. If you didn't see that thread, please contact me via PM or on Discord (Old_Man_Tai #0691) and share your thoughts, as the mods, myself in particular, are attempting to be more open with members than we may have in the past.
One thing that I have heard recently is that many seem to not know how to get a title match, and many seem to think we have some lockdown on titles so only our friends can have them. This is not true.
So, to put the questions aside, I want to educate you all on just how to get a title match in AFW.
First: Use the Character Directory
This is a relatively new addition to our Roster page, and I feel like its been highly underused, but if you click on it, you will see there are threads meant SPECIFICALLY for people to put in characters that they wish to have challenge for various titles on the site. This is one way the mods and the champions, can see just who is interested in challenging for said title belts.
(BTW, this is the SECOND time we've tried to do something like this, as in 2017 we put in a "Title Opportunity Register" Thread in the notice board for people to put their names down to say they were interested in title stuff. Three years later, NONE of you have used it.)
2. Speak directly to a Mod or Champion and tell them of your interest
This is...extremely simple. You need to tell us your interested in title stuff so that we know you are interested. Otherwise, how are any of us supposed to know that you're interested?
This is literally it. This is what it takes. Make it clear to us that you're interested, post your people in the character directory, give us something to work with, and then we can start considering you for stuff.
What WON'T ever get you a title opportunity is doing nothing, saying nothing to us, and instead sitting on the discord with your buddies complaining that you never get title stuff.
- Strawman questions I prepared in advance. Optional to read.:
- 1. "But Tai, I feel like titles only go to a tiny circle of super best friends because of abuse of power!"
Incorrect. Titles go to people who we felt earned them through showing reliability, longevity, decent to good writing skills, a willingness to make stories and other such things, which most people on here have. If your a newer member seeing someone older get a title reign, your not seeing favoritism, your seeing someone whose put time and effort and earned that belt.
2. "Well Tai, we feel some belts have been mishandled because they've gone inactive for a long time, or a person with a belt suddenly becomes inactive and aren't stripped of the belt!"
In THIS, dear strawman, you are correct. We are not perfect, and there HAVE been issues with the belts going inactive once somebody wins one. Life happens to fuck people up at time, not their fault. We are currently working to resolve this issue and make many belts more active and put in re-vamped rules with titles to make them more active.
3. "Well Tai, you say we need to contact you about title stuff, but I feel that a mod or champion should be contacting ME about if I want a title opportunity or not, because I've been doing good threads and if your doing your job right, you should notice that!"
This...is such a weird way of thinking to me. Like, I have a life dude. I've a full time job, I've other interests, I've family I take care of, I've like 20 of my own threads, and I've a lot of mod shit to figure out...but in your opinion, I NEED to be reading up on your threads and seeking YOU out to give you a title thingy? At what point do I have time to do that? That makes no sense, and frankly, just sounds like egotism to me.
4. "Tai, you say we need to contact you or champions to show our interest in title stuff, but I'm an awkward social butterfly, and the mods seems scary and not open to people, and the idea of contacting the mods about that is scary to me, and I don't think I can do that." (I've heard this one a few times recently)
I mean...tough? I dunno what you want me to do here. If you're COMPLETELY unwilling to put yourself out there and contact somebody else, then how are you even getting threads in the first place? If you're not willing to step up and meet us halfway by expressing your interest to us, then there's frankly nothing that we can do to help you. If you really think we mods are scary or unapproachable, I invite you to approach us and give us a chance to prove you wrong on that.
5. "Tai, I posted my character in the thingy and made my interest known, but somebody else got a title shot before me!"
I doubt this'll come up at all really, but just to cover the bases. This doesn't GUARANTEE you're first in line for a belt or anything. Champions still have a right to do stories they want with people they want and if they already have a storyline going, you might still have to wait a while for your shot. But it lets us know you're interested, and so you'll always be thought of and mentioned when planning with champions for title shots and such.
6. "Tai, I want my character to get title shots, but I don't want them to actually lose any title matches, because I feel that makes my character look weak, so can I have multiple titles/only get title shots where I win? Also, I only want a belt if I can have a multi-year title reign, because anything less than that makes my character look weak" (Again, not expecting this, because I hope people are more reasonable than this)
...You are a very silly person with a foolish mindset. The whole "But my character will look weak if blah blah blah" argument is, frankly, one that should be completely dismissed out of hand. The only think that makes a character look weak is if they get completely and utterly jobbed out by a vastly lesser opponent. Putting up a good fight and losing to a champion doesn't make anybody look weak. I know there are a FEW players I've had to chide about this sort of thing. A loss doesn't automatically make anyone look weak or lesser, and I find that situations that like are, again, due more towards personal egotism than actual RP or story issues.
Don't get me wrong, a storyline is one thing, and nobody wants their character in a position that makes them look like shit...but if your the kind of person that goes "No, my character cannot, under any circumstances, lose because losing makes them look weak", and your reasoning is nothing but pure ego, then I honestly don't want you NEAR any belts.
