Inquiry: Roleplay Workshop
So, I have been roleplaying for a long time. Not just on forums but over several mediums throughout the years. Back when I first started here I used to do weekly discussion threads, some were diving into the behind-the-scenes workings of what users did for setting up roleplay, and some were what-if scenarios people could post a little response to, things of that nature. While I don't think we quite have the thriving community we once did you make those old discussions too worthwhile at the moment I did like the community outreach aspect of them.
While we have a brainstorming section of the discord, it doesn't see a whole lot of use. I wish it did, I live for worldbuilding and spitballing plots. I figured I would see if there was any interest in starting a thread where I assist people with roleplay-related matters. Hang-ups with bio stuff, coming up with plot ideas, or even thread/post/ bio critiques. Let me know your thoughts, if you have any interest in this or find it helpful or pointless.

Yea, I'd be game for some building up on ideas. Wrestling storylines aren't something I have much experience with as my writing experience comes from different genres. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to wrestling as whole as well. It is mostly my memory of the shows as a kid that keep me figuring things out.
The absolute worst is coming up with some backstory in this environment. It makes me drag my heels a bit when trying to come up with some other characters.

I agree with 3ho here. One of the hardest parts of writing a character here is a backstory, as theres only so many things you can do with this particular genre.
I would be down for a workshop like this.

Re: Inquiry: Roleplay Workshop
It's true given the niche nature of professional wrestling being the focus, it can bottleneck a lot of bios when it comes to the history of characters since ultimately they sorta all end up in the same place. Most of my involved bios just work the wrestling someplace and run with it but the meat of the character comes outside of the wrestling. Sometimes it's good to have a simple backstory though and just build out the character through roleplay.
One of my favorite methods of character-building is working it in reverse. Have a simple idea, and play the character. Do what feels natural and see what you like doing with the characters and how they act. Once you know what you want the character feel to be, you can reverse engineer background events that help explain why they are that way.

I really welcome this. I hope with this AFW will be even more beginner-friendly and hoping that we can get more new-comers in the near future!
