Wrestling Information
“If it’s a fight you want, don’t come crying back to me after I put your ass on the floor!”

Type: High-Flying Speedster

Strategy: Because of her background in basketball, Louise is an elite leaper. Her raw vertical and impressive body control in midair allow her to pull off all sorts of acrobatic aerial maneuvers. With the springy floors of AFW’s wrestling rings below her, she can jump even higher than before and land with ease.

Defensively, she relies more on her speed to avoid getting hit rather than using her guard to block. If you’re not careful, though, she’ll end up behind you in a hurry.

Attacking Louise’s left knee -- the site of her former injury -- is an easy way to freak her out. If she manages to pull herself out of her panic, though, she’ll go all out to kick your ass.

Favorite Moves:

  • Jumping kicks
  • Flips
  • High-flying moves
  • Butterfly kicks
  • Roundhouse kicks

Biographical Information
“I'm not here to make friends, but… if you wanna hang out sometime, that could be cool.”

Personality:
Louise is bitter and pessimistic, owing to the countless hours spent thinking “what if”. She doesn’t go out of her way to be mean, but her words can be caustic at times. Thankfully for those not into getting insulted, she’s usually a woman of few words. She says exactly what she needs to, no more no less, but sometimes, she feels the need to shut you up.

As a person, Louise’s walls are high. She doesn’t want pity, and she doesn’t want to be annoyed. At the end of the day, what Louise does want is to be respected, to feel like everything she worked her whole life for means something. Though her friends since her injury have been few and far between, even she recognizes the importance of a good support system. Because of that, anybody that she lets in is somebody that she’ll hold dear and protect with all she’s got.

When it comes to matters of romance or sex, Louise is a blushing, nervous mess. While she’s no stranger to thinking about her feelings, most of that experience was centered around negative emotions. If someone else were to come into her life, she wouldn’t know how to deal with those feelings.

Biography:
Most genuine basketball prodigies are identified from an early age, then brought up through a youth training system to learn the intricacies of the game and establish their dominance. Long anointed as generational talents, it’s not long before they go pro.

Not so for Louise Vandenbroeck. Born in a small neighborhood of a slightly-less-small town in the Netherlands made exposure hard to come by. The diminutive (by the standards of women’s basketball, at least) girl had a tough time attracting the eyes of even the Dutch national basketball program, to say nothing of professional teams’ youth scouts or American schools. If her family put all their money down, they’d have just enough to move to a bigger city, but Louise didn’t want to put her family through that. Besides, she wanted to represent her town to the best of her ability.

That didn’t stop Louise from practicing her craft. Countless hours of layup lines, shooting drills, physical exercise, and film sessions paid off in spades. Eager to test her skills, Louise traveled across Europe to play pickup games at parks frequented by the best players her age. In those games, her blinding speed and elite airborne agility earned her the moniker “the Scarlet Streak.” Still, reputation could only do so much. Without a place for bona-fide scouts to watch her play in a controlled environment, she was relegated to life as a streetballer.

Louise had just resigned herself to that when an event was announced where American colleges and pro clubs from around the world would send scouts to watch the best European youth. This would be Louise’s best and only chance to impress scouts with a dazzling display of skill -- and surely, she would. After that, the possibilities would be endless: she could go pro in Europe, she could travel the world, she could even enroll in an American university in hopes of entering the best women’s basketball league in the world. Louise truly believed that she was destined to someday reach the highest echelons of the sport she loved.

Until, that is, about a week before the event. Louise was working through a routine set of whole-body exercises when she felt a searing pain in her left knee. Collapsing to the ground, she was quickly carted off by friends and family to a nearby hospital, where she learned the worst had happened: Her ACL was fully torn.

Even the best doctors and physical therapists in the world wouldn’t be able to get her even close to playing basketball before the event. As it stood, she would be out of action for her last, best chance at making a career out of her passion -- and nearly a year beyond that.

With her life as the Scarlet Streak now shattered, Louise became bitter, stewing in the ashes of long-dead hopes. After her surgery, she rehabilitated, with not a day passing by where she didn’t think of what could have been. Even after she finished the whole process, she never touched a basketball or watched a game again, the grief and resentment too much to bear.

Louise moved into an apartment to spare her family the sight of her continual angst. She took on odd jobs, usually centered around her town’s bustling shipping and industrial sectors, for nearly two years. Around that time, she got an email from a Dr. Christina Morgenstern -- some know-it-all hotshot professor who was looking for girls to join a weird wrestling promotion in Japan.

Over the years, Louise had sent poorly-recorded videos of her running drills and playing pickup games to countless basketball dignitaries around the world. Apparently, Dr. Morgenstern worked at a college that she’d sent the files to and was one of the few people who’d actually taken the time to watch them. The researcher needed a few girls to fight for her new team, she said, and owing to Louise’s impressive physical feats, the former basketball player was perfect. She’d thought it odd that Louise’s name seemed to suddenly disappear from the basketball world. As Christina told her, she tracked the Scarlet Streak down, and eventually made the offer.

It was more attention than anyone had paid to Louises’ career in her entire life.

Long since recovered from her injury, Louise took Christina up on the offer. For the most part, she wasn’t really sure why. Maybe it was inevitable that she’d jump on the first person to show her any respect. Maybe she’d simply gotten tired of her dead-end way of life in a small Dutch town and sought to see the world. Maybe the money was too good to refuse. But one thing was for sure: She was going to show the whole world what they were missing in the Scarlet Streak.

Fun Facts:

  • Before discovering basketball, Louise had a passion for marine biology and a love for sharks of all varieties.
  • Louise’s favorite basketball player is Derrick Rose, owing to his explosive leaping ability and impressive body control in the air. After her injury, her admiration for the former superstar only grew.
  • Louise will punch you out if you mix alcohol with coffee. Just don’t do it around her.
