Avalanche 2020 Postponement

Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:04 pm by killcarrion

Due to various circumstances, including some board members becoming ill (whom we all wish a prompt and speedy recovery), magnified stress levels due to the holiday season, and the fact that our delay of SummerSplash may have inadvertently pushed some storylines further down the line...this year we've decided to postpone the beginning of Avalanche from Dec 1st to Dec 15th.

This is to give members more time to finish threads or further storylines in preparation for their Ava match, and hopefully …

Howdy everyone,

I've recently had a bit of an appifiny that drives me to retire from this forum for the foreseeable future.

I'm sorry to everyone I have an active thread with. Unfortunately, I won't be finishing our threads. If you wish you have my blessing to finish the threads however you like.

If anyone wants to take my face claims or my characters as a whole please feel free to reach out and ask.

It's been a fun ride. Good luck and thanks for everything.  Razz

Edit: Sorry I didn't …

Wrestling Information

Tenka Gulian Wrestling-Skill-Beginning

Endurance: 6.5/10:
Tenka has a decent amount of endurance; patience is a virtue in competitive fighting after all. If you want to land decisive blows, sometimes you have to take a few on the chin to get there.

Strength: 7.5/10:
Delivering explosive strands of technique requires to the power to make those moves worth the effort to pull off. Tenka has a lot of strength behind each movement and especially behind her strikes. If you catch one unguarded, she guarantees it will at least hurt.

Speed: 7/10:
To act on the momentary weaknesses of an enemy Tenka has been focused on keeping up her speed; it won't matter how prepared she is to counter if the opponent recovers before she can move in.

Defense: 5/10:
Most of the blocking Tenka can do is more for Kenpo competitions or for street fights; her defense against wrestling moves on the ground is much less impressive, bringing this score way down. So for Tenka; ground games = bad.

Technique: 9/10:
Tenka was a former champion of the Kenpo division of many martial arts events; for her, the techniques she learned there can be easily applied to a wrestling match just as well. Each of her attacks and defenses will fluidly lead into another if she is not stopped; the best way to defeat her is to stop her from building up steam!

Strikes: 8/10:
In the world of strikes Tenka is very confident; her decisive blows won her championships in martial arts, why not here?

Aerials: 4/10:
This is an area where Tenka suffers; as a martial artist-turned wrestler, she has had very little practice flying off the ropes or off her opponents.

Powerhouse: 4/10:
Another area where lack of wrestling experience shows; Tenka is capable of lifting people but not very sure what to do from there.

Submissions: 4/10:
Tenka's groundwork...needs some work. She has always been incredibly hard to down in her tournaments so she has very little experience with this. She is still looking for more training on submissions; the little training she did beforehand should be enough to start her time in the league but that's all

Counters: 8.5/10:
Counters are of course the main dish of what Tenka provides; she has an extensive repertoire of counter techniques due to the nature of her learning and her style. If the opponent does not keep up sufficient pressure from move to move Tenka will hit back; and hard.

Strategy: Overall, Tenka's strategy is centered around momentum. In her matches in martial arts tournaments and in wrestling matches, her strategy involves knowing how to disrupt people's offense. Utilizing her knowledge in Chinese Kenpo and her ability to make precise and painful strikes, Tenka is always looking for ways to interrupt both physical and mental momentum with a well executed counter. Once her opponent has been interrupted Tenka usually then tries to connect her moves into a variation on any number of Kenpo techniques. If the opponent does not in-turn interrupt Tenka, they will be in for a trademark finishing strike.

Style: Explosive Striker

Preferred Attacks: Strikes to soft targets; punches, kicks, elbows and knees to peoples sternums and temples are very common.

Preferred Matches: For many reasons Tenka's preferences do not matter; she is down for whichever matches she can get/gets forced into.

Favored moves:
Rose's Thorns: A Superkick to the chin, followed immediately by an elbow drop to the spine if the opponent hits the mat.

Finishing moves:

Striking Lances: From either the opponent grabbing her, or her resting their arm against her chest if they cannot resist; pin their hand against her then pulling her arm past theirs to swing back quickly for an elbow to the temple to disorientate. The Tenka sets her stances and uses her other arm to spin them and pull them over her leg to trip them; delivering a devastating hammerstrike with the free hand to their sternum mid fall.

Watch out for the Storm!: Grabs the opponent's arm with her right either mid punch or simply holding them if time is right; Tenka twists their arm until the two wrestlers are lined up while wrapping her left leg around their right. Then she strikes them with her left; aiming for their face, ribs, and stomach until they are trying to double over in pain, finally tripping with her locked leg, slamming the opponent onto the canvas head first!

Tenka Gulian Tenka-Sketch

Tenka is a smart, friendly girl that spends a lot of time reflecting. She is kind outside of the ring and loves the idea of growing alongside others; before her disappearing act she always liked having friends to talk, hang out, or train with. She takes most things in life as best she can but is almost always a little awkward. Once in a comfortable position, Tenka can be more than a little bit sassy/ She is very much someone that warms up to people rather than launching into their lives. In the ring she is much more logical and calculating; she has no intentions for a match to be much else besides her pitting her best at her opponent's best.

Tenka was born to a loving family in Fukuoka, Japan. Her father, an Armenian businessman had come to love the country of Japan and over the course of 10 years there, he moved his business to the small island nation and met the woman that would be Tenka' mother and settled in. This lead to a strange life growing up for Tenka as her father tried to adjust his own Armenian ideologies with the new world they were both living in. Tenka learned a lot of music as a child, she was very proud to listen to and know about the traditional instruments of Armenia. This was how she and her father got their quality time together whenever he was not working. Tenka's relationship with her mother was also good if not more reserved. The two would work near each other and do quiet housework and homework together. Eventually as Tenka aged she began to develop drives for competitions; at first it was music, then went to academics, and finally reached martial arts. In martial arts Tenka found a connection deeper than any she had known; the way that during a bought everything that was not the opponent disappeared into smoke, the way that training brought her more awareness about her own thoughts and muscles, and how when she dove into it enough the rewards were confidence and a stronger state of mind. Her parents were hesitant at first but in their attempts to let their daughter grow, they dove headfirst into the world of Chinese Kenpo with Tenka. The girl quickly developed at the martial art, jumping through the belts and reaching their ultimate conclusion after only 3 years! Tenka at this point could not be more happy about her growth and progress; the constant discipline also brought her grades up and thus made her parents even more happy with their decision to support their daughter wholeheartedly.

Things changed with competitions; Tenka found herself doing well but not winning often enough; she never felt like an opponent was simply too skilled for her to beat, but there were times that her opponents would just get the right strike in to turn the entire match to their favor. This became a frustrating occurrence, so Tenka's training doubled. This made her testing into a good upper secondary school very difficult and strained her relationship with her parents some. She spent the better part of a year refining her skills in the art of controlling the momentum of a fight; knowing when an opponent was at their most overconfident and striking in ways that would force them to try to get space and recover. She became much more harsh and calculating in her fights and it showed. People became much more apprehensive of training in spars against her but Tenka pressed on. The results were great. In her next two tournaments she finally found decisive victories; ones that made her the talk of the town for a brief time and then eventually on a more national stage. For someone who had just turned 22; Tenka was on a roll. She was a high-school martial arts champion that was still succeeding on the national stage to some effect and was wildly popular with her hometown and the people in her college. When Tenka made it to the finals of a tournament held in the Nippon-budokan arena, she finally had the stage she was looking for; and she shined. She defeated her opponent with a move she wanted to make a classic of hers, the Sinking Lances, the strike to the woman's chest leading to a moment of complete silence as the crowd gasped as one. The sound of that body hitting the mat after the perfectly executed move was not something Tenka would ever forget.

She would also always remember the sounds of the ambulance sirens that came after. It turned out, her opponent had been badly injured by a poorly executed counter in an earlier round in the tournament but had continued anyway to try and finish it. Tenka's finishing move had been executed on the already injured woman's chest and broken 3 ribs. There was almost no one that blamed Tenka for the course of the event; except Tenka. She had seen it on her opponent, how could she miss it? The way her guard was obviously shifted to protect the right side of her chest, the extra hard breathing that occurred every time the woman had tried to follow Tenka with movement to the right, the way one of her probing shots to the woman's sternum nearly made her collapse. Tenka had seen signs of what she took as a weak spot and had been relentless in targeting it and punishing her opponent for protecting it. She visited her opponent as she recovered in the hospital many times; some days outside the room, some days inside, some days with others, but most days alone. The fight didn't kill Tenka's drive to win more tournaments, but that scared her more than the opponents injury; why didn't she feel like bad for the pain she had caused? This began making it near impossible for her to comfortable train or do schoolwork. So with the help of her parents she decided to talk to a professional about her emotions. The professional's name was Everard Kapil and he was a specialist when it came to trauma and guilt. Tenka's parents were worried at first, not being able to find much about him online, but after a meeting with him they relaxed and let the process begin. To her parents it worked splendidly, Tenka was back to succeeding in school and in tournaments and everything seemed back on track. The meetings with Everard became more frequent, longer, and more secretive as the year continued, and about 3 months before graduating college, and 7 before a major tournament to determine a spot in an international tournament; Tenka dropped out of both. Her parents, fans and friends were shocked and confused; no one could figure out why she would do these things. It was then she announced that she was going to move to Tokyo and participate in a place called the AFW, with Everard as her manager.

Her parents were in shock but didn't have time to even argue with their daughter; she had already rented out her new apartment and left without a word and without telling them where in Tokyo she moved to. Some of her fans and the people who hoped she could be an international talent in martial arts promised to follow her in this new stage of her career (some of them hoping to convince her to return to martial arts with them as her new manager) and to welcome her back if she ever came home. Despite the worries of people trying to find out why the sudden shift had occured and wanting to talk to her new manager, Everard was able to avoid any interviews during this time, only sending letters to online news sources to dispel any rumors he thought were worth getting rid of. Six months after the announcement, Tenka is done training and ready for her first match; with her parents still trying to find her to get some kind of explanation.

Wrestling Attire:
A lightly ribbed bodysuit with long sleeves and a belt (as in picture)

Fun Facts:
Tenka's apartment is a 2 bedroom suite that she would love to have friends over in if any of them ever found her again
Tenka is a bit of a gym rat now that she doesn't have another martial artist to train against
Tenka's reputation among martial artists near her hometown was that she was always the nicest opponent; going to put you down in decisive blows rather than drawn out point wars.
Tenka is very neat and orderly in her living space and enjoys the results of clean (even if she doesn't like the process)
Tenka plays some online games just before bed most nights to try and keep connected to some of her more distant friends
Tenka hates driving in any kind of bad weather
