History, is it really needed?

At least explain why they joined the AFW.

As someone who sucks at writing profiles, yeah, I hate writing the history. I never have any idea what to put, and while most of it is unimportant bullshite anyway, it can be used to explain whatever certain quirks or attitudes characters may have.


Like Kitten said, at the very least put some effort into explaining how your characters got into AFW. It's just so annoying to see "She heard of AFW and joined because it seemed fun!"


Last I checked, most wrestling companies, and most companies in general, didn't just let you sign yourself up of your own accord.

I think, if anything, a good backstory is good for defining the personality of your character. Knowing where they came from, how they grew up and what they want out of life can be a big help in deciding just how a character should act in certain situations. So yes, I personally think a character's history is just as important as everything else in their profile.

Also, if you are planning an in depth RP with several other characters, it's good to have a history. Characters with a similar upbringing, at least in my opinion, would have better chemistry. I guess if you really aren't trying to do much more with the character than just have her get in the ring and toss around another girl, then sure, having a background is pretty pointless. But giving the character something to base their personality on is needed to really have a character that people can find interesting.

Firstly, Fukuyama was a fucking idiot.

Obviously it depends how deep you like to roleplay, but where someone comes from determines where they're going, to a massive extent. I can't imagine NOT writing at least a couple of history lines.

Seeing as it's something people sometimes struggle with, I genuinely wonder if we should have some kind of collaborative character workshop thread - post a pic you like and get the forum to piece together a bio. The AFW version of a random character generator.
