How much is too much?
I'm talking of course, about fanservice. Kind of a random topic, but hell, I'm bored.
Now, obviously, some anime goes way over the top with it to the point it is basically the only thing the show has. No interesting plot, dull, boring characters, not much else to say. When you don't have anything else, fanservice is the way to go. I mean, there are some obvious examples...
I'm just gonna leave this right here...
So I state again, how much is too much? For some people, any at all is too much, but for others, the above example somehow doesn't manage to satisfy people's "need." Personally, I think some is fine. And by some, I mean 1 instance every few episodes. When I invest my time into an anime, I actually like to be taken in by an in depth story, not how much screen time breasts get. That's just me though. What's everyone else's standard?

Re: How much is too much?
It of course depends on how much there is but regardless of how much fanservice there is, as long as it's a good story to watch with a reason to have fanservice like some Mahou Shoujo or a fun slice of life anime like Nanoha or something, it doesn't matter how much service there is in an anime
But High School of the Dead on the other hand? Oh my god.... There was NO reason for the fanservice in that! I was SO looking forward to that anime since I liked the idea of a zombie apocalypse and High School students fighting to survive, but the fanservice in that completely RUINED it. Especially that Sniper slow motion scene where the bullet went by the samurai girl's bouncing breasts.

Re: How much is too much?
Honestly, it DOES matter how much fanservice there is. If an anime has so much of it that it overshadows any plot that it may or may not have, then yes, it really does matter. HOTD is the best example I can think of. No plot, just breasts. It goes like this: Sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, slight plot development, sex, sex, sex... It goes on like this.
Also, if you want a zombie concept, then watch any zombie movie that's not HOTD. All of them are better.

Re: How much is too much?
I didn't even know that Mahou Soujo had fanservice.

Re: How much is too much?
I JUST said "if there was a REASON for it", as long as it doesn't overshadow the plot as you said then it's fine. Like I said with Mahou Shoujo animes, the girls lose their clothes and are naked during their transformation scenes. But yes, having so much to the point of it overshadowing the plot is when it goes too far, but other then HSOTD I have yet to find one of those yet.
Also, sex isn't the word your looking for since there is NO sex in HSOTD, it's not a hentai it's an ecchi anime. The proper word(s) is/are breasts/boobs/tits/oppai

Re: How much is too much?
I've seen tons of anime through internet, Hulu, Crunchyroll, Netflix, etc etc.... honestly, having too much fanservice is okay depending what it is, one of em I can remember that I didnt like cause it always showing their panties like every 5-10 seconds, which is way more than other fanservice anime that I can remember, this anime Im talking about.
I do enjoy the fighting, the story I sort of remember XD, but I guess I was bit annoyed to see flashing panties way too often in this *shrug*, Im weird, I dont know!
The other anime I really enjoyed cause its over-the-top and does have fanservice, yet its funny and really good action too.
Love this anime, very amusing for sure :3

Re: How much is too much?
Well said V thanks for adding more to my case, also PLEASE remind me to watch Kill la Kill once it finishes airing. Since it's on my watchlist and I'd rather watch all the episodes right off the bat rather then wait for em.

Re: How much is too much?
A transformation scene is hardly fanservice. I wouldn't consider it fanservice at all in fact. A transformation sequence is there simply to imply that the character is "getting stronger." Sailor Moon did the same thing, and all it did was show a character's outline, showing little to no detail. So no, that doesn't count as fanservice.
And there is NO good reason to have fanservice. None. It doesn't further a plot, it doesn't develop a character's personality, so what does it do? What possible reason does it have to exist? As I said, I'm not against fanservice being there, but I don't like seeing it in every episode because it doesn't serve any purpose whatsoever (you know, aside from catering to the perverts who watch it for nothing else.)
