How to write good 101 Empty How to write good 101

Post by Kitten Mon Apr 08, 2013 11:19 pm

In an effort to help all you noob raise your roleplaying abilities I am going to give you a few tips on how to improve your posting, because I am awesome like that..

1. Avoid alliteration. Always

2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

3. Avoid cliches like the plague. They are old hat.

4. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.

5. Be more or less specific.

6. Writes should never generalize.

Seven. Be constant.

8. Don't be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; it is highly superfluous.

9. Who needs rhetorical questions?

10. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.

To add my two cents in, I'm not the best at writing but in a character and rping specific thing it's a bit degrading for the other person when one overpushes their character in an rp. This includes deciding the crowd is for or against each combatant, unless agreed to beforehand of course, and also overusing adjectives to over glorify your character.

Just my thoughts.

#7...I see what you did there.

Alliteration's frowned on though? And what's defined as cliche around here?

<img src=" title="Razz" /> Does not every top 10 don'ts list do what it's telling you not to with each thing on the list? Tis a common joke.

How to write good 101 Empty Re: How to write good 101

Honestly, I know I'm not the best writer. I make spelling mistakes all the time and I don't review my posts because I'm usually too busy or too lazy to look over them. Everyone knows, I'm not the best writer in the world. However, if any newbies are watching I'd like to give them some sound advice.
Spoiler:

In summary, being a good role-player is determined by maintaining a good relationship with your role-playing partner, communicating with your partner and role-play by playing the role of your character well.

Tips for writing-
(Bascially everything else has been said)

But, here's some tips, love it or hate it.

1) Use Google Chrome
-It gets rid of your spelling errors
-if you coincidentally exited your window due to an update, or your mom standing over your shoulder, you can open a new tab and reopen recently closed with the text from the post still on it! It's like magic ^_^

2) Re-read your posts
-I should do this more often
-If you were born into an English speaking family just read your post over in your head before you press send. Usually, you get the most obvious grammar errors out of the way unless you're special like me <img src=" title="Smile" />

3) Try harder
-Make an effort to become better at writing by using new words, being descriptive
-Try not to be repetitive (Yes, this one needs to be said again)
-Switch up Sentence Structure, add more flare and be great in your entry.
-Be Specific

Unapplied
Rei pointed at Oath. Rei ran Oath. Rei punched Oath. Oath fell down.

Applied

Pointing at her nemesis, Rei sprinted towards Oath in a furious charge. With the momentum of her entire body behind her, she extended her right arm forwards smashing her fist into Oath's jaw. Oath, out like a light, fell to his knees before his eyes rolled into the back of his head. It wasn't long before he collapsed onto his side utterly defeated.

Obviously, I exaggerated here.

((Holy shit this turned out much longer than I thought))
