I dunno, maybe have people work out the finish before starting a match so they've got something to work towards? That way all the power playing stuff and who wants to win and why etc gets all sorted out and bitched over PMs instead of the match as an idea to make it so it's easier to finish matches.

-----
And of course it's the higher ups who have problems with each other. The Kliq didn't get formed out of jobbers (disregard Sean Waltman and Justin Credible), it's the top tier talent who get really defensive about their spot as top tier talent because not everyone gets to be in title matches and the like.#

Well, yeah, if people can't handle winging it and being courteous about conceding defeat when the match looks like that's how it should go, then you're left with predetermined matches. That leads to it's own set of problems, of course.

The point with that is that "dark matches" can just get brushed off. There's not as much that sticks on your character from a one-off match, and when people get upset they can just mail it in and take a dive to get it over with or abandon the match altogether. In matches where character's futures are affected and something is at stake, people don't just blow it off. Well... some people still concede but only because they're too nice to make a fuss. It's just different.

People should be gentlemen to their rp partners, and both should enjoy a match regardless of outcome. If a match is more beneficial to one than the other, the one on the short end can sometimes just do it for them out of the niceness of their heart. You should be able to trust your partner, not always be expecting to be thrown under the bus. That's when the arms race starts.

Also, it's not just a problem with upper level matches, for the record, I know plenty of people who complain about the same thing in throwaway matches, but who would you complain to and why bother?

And the sort of thing you're talking about would be more pronounced when there's a prize on the line. People with no attention or status probably are less likely to squabble, and have less of a reason to, and if they did who would listen? No one talks about the third character of a newbie member's pillow fight match against an obscure kawaii.

Currently there is a prize on the line between a couple Higher Ups, and I've heard complaints on both sides. So your right about that.

Kerflubble is right on his side as well.

My point was, when you claim that "Everything has gone to shit" and "Everyone hates everyone else and has their groups"
your trying to refer to board as a whole, when, at least based off what I've heard and seen, a vast majority, if not indeed all of the current issues, are based around the higher up players unable to handle their shite with each other.

In short, your somewhat belittling comment aside, I think I make a valid point: That you higher up people, with your groups and cliques, are the ones with the issues. Even if "the little people" complain, you said it yourself, who would they complain to and who would care? But if one of the higher ups decide to whine about something, then it becomes a big issue.

I can certainly say that while "lower status" people will take their characters just as seriously as higher ups, they certainly don't bitch as much.

Sounds like someone wishes he were a "higher up".

I'd rather not point fingers at specific people if we can avoid it, too. I don't mind telling it how it is, but I don't revel in the thought of dragging people through the mud by name.

My point about one off, throwaway matches that have no consequence to the landscape of AFW as a whole is that there is very little lost from having your character mistreated that can't be solved by just ending the match and moving on.

If everyone just did IM matches that had no relevance to continuity of those characters or the others on the site, we wouldn't need this board. Just the "looking for IM matches" thread. The fact that we have a board means that we are a collective. This site is a conglomeration of lots of people who collaborate to write characters in storylines that are intertwined. The top of it is effectively the friction title, it's the highest aspiration a character can have (speaking IC) in their career. It has broad implications not only to the other characters, but also to the other members.

Matches, for the sake of argument PPV matches, need to go well out of consideration for the rest of the board. Without the visible portion of the board, it will become very difficult to put together storylines that go beyond just you and one other person.

Also, please unbunch your panties. >_< Don't think I won't come after you.

Also, I don't have enough friends to qualify for a clique. Good heavens. At best I AM my clique. You can insert your own forever alone jpg. <img src=" title="Sad" />

Sniffle.

This is very all "deep" and "informative" stuff, but it really depends on what your here for, kinda like a holiday you never actually leave but with fetishes all around you, wonders and horrors. Powergamer's and elitists I can understand, take over and conquer aspect, but DON'T bring it on others, many come here for fun, not being dragged down with too many rules/can-do's-can-not's to bore them with. Personally, why I'm here is because to create characters, fight, make stories, build relationships between characters and have fun most importantly, not to start a riot.

But as I said, it depends what you want <img src=" title="Very Happy" />
Dig around and you may get what your craving for, Vegas baby~

[quote="Bluemouse":2mrmoyok]It's always been an IC goal for my characters to hold the title, at least my major ones. OOC, it never has, mostly because I think it'd be a nightmare to be forced to play a match with someone who doesn't understand what their doing or how to do it. Matches rely on mutual trust, and where titles are involved probably the majority involve at least one person refusing to lose and keeping the match going until they win. It's a lot more common now than it was, too, but I personally don't want a title so that I don't have to deal with people treating the match and my character badly for their own personal benefit.

Which leads to my second point, I think rankings and titles should be looked at like a responsibility, less a point of pride. I think it's a bigger load to carry to be high ranked because more is expected of you and the character, the matches should be good, and if your character is high ranked because you're a habitual power player then you've broken the entire game and it no longer functions for anyone. It's a delicate balance.

I always thought it would have been neat to have Taylor land a title, but she was only just coming up to main event status after 2.5 years and I didn't want to try to rush anything or force anything. If she ends up never coming back, I won't be upset for never having done it, due in large part to the above reasons.

I think I agree with you on that point about title matches being a pain. Sometimes they are a pain to read.

Speaking in general about any match, not just title matches...I'm watching some matches right now, and remember past matches I've seen, and I'm wondering how they've gone on so long, or why the posts from various people seem like autododging and really stretching rationality just to avoid loosing their match, it seems like an OOC problem, not an IC problem. Even if my chars became really popular, I'd steer clear of the PPV's or Avalanche events or ranks just because of that.

I understand what you mean I nearly though my first match which Xerxan was going to end with him dying or being bed ridden for months after the fight ended which I was lucky my opponent was kind enough to heal me. I mostly though when I made him that because he wasn't strong on the powerside unlike most of the others in the FNF league as it could tempt a few people into matches where even my sight could be used to my opponents advantage if they tricked me into looking up at the bright lights of the arena.

Post by Cirno Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:01 pm

Hi I'm Cirno, I'm here to throw a wall of text in your face.

This ' Power Playing ' and ' Star hopping ' crap. Quite honestly the first time I heard that, I thought they were playing Super Mario or whatever, it just sounds so similar and stuff. Now, I'll start with the Power Playing first. Personally, I've been Power played at for almost two years and rarely got a problem with it because it's basically one person wanting to win just a bit more then the other. If ANYONE has a problem with another RPer power playing then for the love of God, take it up with them. Don't contact the mods, they are not your parents and like every other known problem in the world, bringing someone in who has not experienced the problem for themselves, will only make matters worse. It might be scary for some to face the person directly about it through PM's or Messenger or whatnot but believe me, they would rather here it from YOU then the mods and the mods are busy enough, you are all adults now and can handle yourselves in these situations.. Otherwise, I fear for you when the zombie apocalypse arrives.

Then this ' Star Hopping ', which I still believe is Super Mario. I still don't quite understand what the problem is.. You can refuse a match, you can plan a match out and off course for some, plan victory or defeat. Anyway, back to this Super Mario Thing. Yes it might seem bad but some people just wanna face the wrestlers they like, if they happen to have some kind of stardom or whatever ( Belts, popularity, ect ) and if they lose... Well, tough luck for them. Again, plan shit out before you throw your characters in there, if you're afraid or don't want to lose, try to throw in a deal or two to work it out, otherwise mommy and daddy mods are secretly involved again because someone was too shy to talk to the person in question and makes matters much, much worse. Again, you don't want that, no one wants that.

I think some people are just very competitive about some things, which is something I respect yet at the same time thinking about only winning the match, basically ruins the RP for both the winner and the loser. Roleplaying is supposed to be fun or magical. You know, rainbow stuff. People often forget that they are playing with other RPers and that apparently can get messy but those people forget the basic rule of RP and life! Talk it out with eachother, or the feds have to interfere and it won't end pretty! Someone might just get beaten up, or shot.. Or both. Anyway, please remember that you're doing matches for fun. Winning is nice, enjoying the match with eachother is nicer.
