Unforgettable

Immediately after Conway's Crib ended, the screen cut to Julia Rogers, who was standing backstage in her ring gear next to a young woman holding a microphone. Julia wore a straight expression under her mask, and held her arms crossed under her chest. Tonight was Avalanche, AFW’s biggest show of the calendar year. Normally, the thought of competing on such a huge show in front of so many people would have the cowgirl elated. But that wasn’t at all how Julia felt tonight.

“I’m here now with Kelly Conway’s opponent tonight, Julia Rogers,” the woman said before looking toward the masked blonde. “Julia, we just heard some strong words from your opponent tonight. Do you have anything you’d like to say to her before your match?” she asked, then held the microphone near Julia’s mouth.

“Y’know, for someone who seems so convinced I ain’t even worth talkin’ about, she sure had a lot to say ‘bout me, didn’t she?” Julia replied before looking straight at the camera.

“Well that’s fine, Kelly, ‘cause I got a lot t’ say too. Y’say no one’s gonna remember me after tonight? Well I’ll never forget you. I’ll never forget the things you did to screw with the lives of everyone in the Higurashi dojo. Those girls weren’t just my mentors. We were a family! And time and time again you did everything in your power to tear us apart!” By now she’d uncrossed her arms, and took the microphone from the interviewer as she continued.

“Y’seem worried about me tryin’ t’ imitate you for some reason, and I ain’t quite sure why, ‘cause you represent so many things I never want to be! So yeah, rest assured there is and always will be only one Kelly Conway. But also know that there will never be another Julia Rogers.” She held a single finger up to accentuate her point.

“Go ahead, underestimate me all ya want. Ya won’t be the first or the last. But the sky’s the limit for me as they say, and the skies are my territory. There ain’t anyone around who can fly like me, and tonight, here at Avalanche, I’m gonna take ya on a first class trip straight to your own personal hell!” Julia took a deep breath, nodded and took a step back. As she spoke again, her voice was much more calm and controlled.

“Karma’s a bitch, Kelly. And you’ve got a lot of shit comin’ right back ‘round to ya tonight.”

And with that she tossed the mic right back to the woman beside her and strode out toward the curtain. It was time to go to war…
