Hash Tags

I was fiddling with some of the admin settings and noticed that a new feature was available.. hash tags.

Although initially reluctant (as I don't fancy AFW starting to look like a Twitter feed), if it is used correctly I think it could be very useful... Particularly considering how bad the search is at the moment.



How it could be used

Below the Search text field is a "Tags" radio box, if this is checked (and if you display results as topics) you will return all topics that have that hash tag anywhere in the thread. Meanwhile hash tags can be inserted in a non-intrusive way by using the hide BB code

What you could hash tag

1. Character names in match/RP threads where their name will not appear in the title

2. Name of pictured characters in your bios (to help other members find out if a picture has already been taken before they make a new character)

3. Gimmicks/styles/fetishes on your bios that relate to your character (eg. catgirl, teacher / powerhouse, submissionist / kawaii, jobber)

4. match stipulations (eg. smother, hardcore, hentai, POW)


Possible problems

-It appears that when doing a search with the tags radio button ticked, you will only be searching for tags... not thread titles
-you can't hash tag two words without an underscore or hyphen, the same when searching (searching for "Ladder match" will bring up any tags for threads with "ladder" or "match" tags, but not "Ladder_match" tags)



To help everyone try and use the same tags, we could even have a special hashtag thread to list more obscure tags or if we need to differentiate between certain tags (eg. specify that "hentai_match" tag refers to a match type and a "hentai_character" tag  refer to a character's preference)

This is kinda neat. Has anyone tried it yet?

I did a quick test to ensure it worked (which it does seem to), I don't know if anyone has started putting tags on their match threads and bios yet though

I think that sort of idea would be perfect, considering I imagine alot of people will only have their wrestlers fight others of certain stats/features/etc, which would be down to a simple search now instead of browsing through aload of roster lists.

I've put a couple of tags on some of my characters, would be good if some people could try to find some of mine using the Tags search

Also I've put a few random tags in (trying to predict the kind of things people might search for when looking for a character). Why don't you try a few random searches, its hard to predict what kind of things people might search for so it would be interesting to hear what people put in, which searches failed to find any of my characters and which searches were successful

I searched brat_pack, jessica, standard, and hentai, and found all of your results. I got everything I expected to get.

Tried face and heel and found results for both.
